Buckingham Town U10's Retain Cup with sparkling Display.
(News item dated September 16th, 2010)
Buckingham Town U10 Wizards now unbeaten in back-to-back seasons in ther Shires League and produced an outstanding display as they defeated Old Northamptonians to win the Shires League U-10's Pairs Trophy at Overstone Cricket Club on Sunday(12th September).

The 20 over match is played with 4 pairs of batsmen facing 5 overs each.

Skipper Albert Johnson won the toss and inserted ON's and saw his opening bowlers Albert Oswald and Tom Taylor give their side a bright start.

With only 5 runs coming from the first 5 overs and the loss of 2 wickets, Buckingham were in the ascendency which they maintained throughout the innings. A wicket apiece for Joe West, Finn Lee and Alfie Robey kept up the pressure on the ON's middle order and the bowling performance of the day came from captain Albert Johnson(3-8 from 4 overs). Tom Oswald finished with 2-6 from 4 overs.

Buckingham's fielding was excellent with keeper Adam King and Joe West the star performers. ON's closed on a net score of 218.

Buckingham's batsmen were in fine form scoring freely to all parts of the ground. Town's batting and running was excellent with Oswald and Taylor opening the innings before Joe West and Finn Lee built on the solid foundations with some lovely stroke play.

Town's -10 county batsman Albert Johnson(23) and Adam King(28) were on this occasion eclipsed by the powerful hitting of James Brady with 6 boundaries in his 33 runs. It was left to Bucks U10 opener Adam King to finish the innings with a Man-of-the Match performance as the promising left hander produced a number of classy shots and found a good partner in Robey, who struck some lusty late blows.

Buckingham U10's ran out comfortable winners by 118 runs with a net score of 336 from their 20 overs.

Albert Johnson collected the trophy for his side, as well as winning the Shires League Fantasy League Player, while King was given his award as Man-of-the-Match by the hard working Sandra Blair for a classy knock and excellent performance behind the stumps.

As well as the eight players, Tom Davies collected an award as part of the winning squad and coach Stuart Helps collected a set of cricket balls as reward for his sixes outstanding display.

Buckingham Town Maidens Regional Champions
(News item dated August 18th, 2010)
On Tuesday 10th August Buckingham Town Maidens competed in the Lady Taverners Regional U13 Outdoor Finals. With the rain falling steadily in Bournemouth normal play was impossible so the competition was to be decided on a serious of bowl outs between the teams. Two balls per bowler with the whole squad having to bowl highest number of wickets taken would decide the match. Nerve-racking for both the coaches and parents the Maidens held their nerve winning against Devon, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Oxfordshire and Somerset.

A great team effort by all involved but a special mention must go to Emma Measey taking first ball wickets in the sudden death part of two matches!

The squad now go on to represent the South and West in the National Finals in Shropshire on Thursday 26th August.

Prizes were presented by Lydia Greenway who was part of the England Women's winning world cup cricket team and is pictured with the Buckingham Town Maidens.

Buckingham Under 8s Win Cublington Kwik Cricket Tourament
(News item dated August 8th, 2010)
Buckingham's under 8 cricketers enjoyed success in the Cublington Kwik cricket tournament on Sunday Morning. The team of Tom Amies, Joe Clark, Joe Phillips, Henry Dickinson, Sacha Clark-Jones, Lewis Crosby, Holly Phillips and Finley Clark finished unbeaten on the day winning all four of their matches against Twyford, Aylesbury, Stewkley and tournament favourites Cublington to become champions.

The Achievement was made all the more special, as Holly 6 and Finley 5 were last minute recruits for their first ever cricket match. Both had attended the tournament to support their brothers but after some early morning withdrawals from the original squad both Finley and Holly were brilliant and showed no fear against some strong opposition. The whole team performed very well together and along with some excellent individual performances deserved the trophy on the day.

Tom, Joe P, Henry and Lewis all scored some good totals during the day with many boundaries including some big sixes. Sacha and Holly also batted very well and protected their wicket superbly. Joe Clark showed excellent patience and some clever thinking to protect his brother Finley whilst batting as a pair. Holly Philips took two excellent catches.

The Bowling and fielding on the day was of a very high standard and formed the platform for the winning formula. Team Managers Kevin Clark and Aide Johnson were very proud of the team, as was all the parents who had an early start to be at Cublington for 8.45am. The whole competition was played in an excellent and friendly atmosphere and was great fun for all those involved. Especially for the young Buckingham team who came home with the trophy.

Buckingham Town Cricket Club and The Royal Latin School formalise links
(News item dated July 1st, 2010)
Buckingham Town and The Royal Latin School have formalised their working partnership under the ECB Community scheme and the School Sport Partnership Scheme.

Alex Guthrie from the Royal Latin is pleased that with this agreement - 'the School now has access to cricket specific expertise and knowledge through ECB qualified cricket coaches who have attended the ECB 'Working in Schools' module , access to cricket specific facilities at the club venue, both indoor and outdoor, advice and guidance about cricket specific resources - curricular and extracurricular e.g. DVD's, publications, online etc, and access to school coaching visits - curricular and extracurricular which have already started and are being really well received.'

Neville Pritchard, Chairman of Buckingham Town CC said 'the real benefits of the partnership is that it is very definitely two-way and it is fabulous to be working with such a committed team'. The club will benefit from access to facilities both indoor and outdoor (as a priority where possible), access to teachers / staff expertise and knowledge and the opportunity to offer cricket to all young people across specified year groups both within and beyond the curriculum. He went on to say, 'the cricket club is a place where there is something for everyone and we welcome pupils and families to the club with a wide range of opportunity, not just playing. This could include umpiring, scoring, coaching, supporting our web site development, organising events, administration, catering, supporting ground maintenance and more.'

Both have agreed to encourage the development of girls cricket at both the school and the club and to build upon the BTCC Maiden's recent success in becoming County champions.

Sunday 1st XI Team Photo
(News item dated June 25th, 2010)

Sunday 1st XI v. Stony Stratford 20/6/10.
Points deduction for Town's 3rd XI
(News item dated June 17th, 2010)
In their first League match of the season Town's 3rd's travelled to Didcot 2nds. Didcot batted first and were dismissed for just 52. Buckingham 3rds reached their target for the loss of just one wicket(54-1).

However due to an adminstration error by the Club three fully paid up playing members on the team sheet, (all Club members for many years), who played that day had been omitted from the registration lists sent to the Cherwell League.

The Cherwell League reduced Buckingham's 25 points to 0 points and Didcot 2nds were awarded the whole 25 points.

Buckingham appealed against the harsh penalty imposed, whilst breaking the rules inadvertently, at least on the grounds that the "punishment" , with 25 points being taken away, didn't fit the crime but unfortunately the appeal was turned down by the Cherwell League and the penalties remain in place.

Town needless to say are very disappointed with the outcome of their appeal and of the three "ineligible players" who played the total contribution by them to the match was 9 not out, apart from fielding(none took catches or bowled) as Didcot, well beaten to say the least, have now been awarded 25 points for their efforts and Town 3rds for their efforts received 0 points for the game.

Calling all players
(News item dated May 2nd, 2009)
The season is now underway and we need your help to ensure you all have the opportunity to play as often as possible.

We have a full league programme on Saturdays for all 3 senior sides and on Sundays we have a first and second eleven throughout the summer with a mix of league and friendly fixtures.

Bob has worked hard to arrange a full programme for everyone and we have this week unfortunately had to cancel a league fixture on Sunday due to a lack of availability. This has cost us 4 points as we strive to maintain our recent record of success in the Sunday competition and the opportunity for a number who wished to play to enjoy a competitive game.

We would ask that everyone considers their availability for all games and proactively contact the captains to help them to select sides and to ensure we are aware of everyone who wishes to be considered. It is a lot easier for each of us to make one call than for the captains to spend all week trying to establish who is available and potentially miss players through oversight rather than intent. Those who play can help by ensuring they have communicated their availability for the following week whilst at the game and those who don't play one week we would ask to let the captains know when they can play.

In receiving this mail we would ask you to consider yourselves as potential Senior match players - we have e-mailed all members from under 14 age group upwards and will seek to involve as many players as is possible through the year. You may have friends, parents or relations who may wish to re-start their cricket after a break away from the game and we would be happy to welcome them to the club, especially for games on Sundays. If you know of anyone who may wish to join us then please give them Bob's contact details as noted below.

The captain's contact details are:

First X1 Saturday Jason Ell 07715 055 337 jason@brightnails.co.uk
Second X1 Saturday Dominic Pritchard 07595 231 575 dni.pritchard@hotmail.co.uk
Third X1 Saturday Neville Pritchard 07886 559 669 nevillejp@hotmail.com
First X1 Sunday Chris Wigan 0781 270 920 chriswigan0110@hotmail.com
Second X1 Sunday Bob Hutt 01280 817 829 huttbob@aol.com

Bob also captains our mid-week X1 who have games at times through the summer.

You can see the full fixture list on our website.

With thanks and looking forward to a successful season for everyone.

Graham Fryer Becomes President of BTCC
(News item dated January 20th, 2009)
Buckingham Town CC are pleased to announce a new Club President, Graham Fryer.

Graham joined BTCC in 1981 moving from Gloucestershire having been Head of PE at The Archway School, Stroud, the Comprehensive School attended by Jack Russell who went on to become a legend as Gloucestershire and England wicketkeeper.

Graham took him to his first County Under 14 trial at Cheltenham College when he was a diminutive 13 year old and he was an outstanding captain of the school team at his age level.

Graham player as a wicketkeeper/batsman in BTCC's Saturday Cherwell League 1st XI, and also in the Sunday 1st XI friendlies and the Midweek League and Cups.

In 1984 Graham was responsible for organising the installation of BTCC's first all-weather pitch(fundraising and liasing with the Sports Council).

Before teaching he served for 6 years in the Royal Artillery. and captained the Regimental team and whilst serving in Malaysia he represented Malacca State and The Commonwealth Forces in Malaysia.

Graham moved away in 1988 to take up a Deputy Headship in Kent where he played for The Mote CC (Maidstone) in the Kent League and captained the Sunday 'A' X1 for 4 years.

Graham became a fully qualified umpire in 2000 and officiated in the Kent Premier and Division 1 Leagues where he regularly met Kent professionals such as Martin Saggers, Joe Denley, Michael Carberry, Amjad Khan, Neil Dexter - to name but a few!

Graham officiated in Mark Ealham's Benefit Match in 2003 with the oppostion including such illustrious names as Shahid Afridi, Grant Flower, Richie Richardson, Jimmy Adams, Mark Waugh and Phil Turnell.

On retirement Graham returned to Bucks 2 years ago and is now on the Cherwell League Panel of Umpires and he also assists with BTCC's youth coaching.

Graham has been a Vice President of the club for over 20 years.

Graham was a great friend of the late Bert Woodfield , who was a Club Stalwart and former President of BTCC, and it was Bert's wish that Graham be asked to become BTCC President.

Cricket Coaches / Helpers Urgently Required
(News item dated January 19th, 2009)

TO ALL PLAYERS & PARENTS

After the 2005 Ashes series victory the level of interest in cricket at junior levels went through the roof! Buckingham Town CC witnessed a sharp rise in the number of applications to join the club at the Junior (U11-U16) & Mini (U6-U10) age groups. The club has always done it's best not to turn anyone away and up to now we have honoured that commitment.

With the new season approaching and winter nets for senior and junior players starting soon it is apparent that there is a shortage both of coaches and helpers, particularly in the U10s age groups and I am asking for your help.

Let me outline how the training schedules are organised.

FRIDAY EVENINGS 6.30-8.00pm U6-U10 AGE GROUPS

I'm sure many of you have witnessed the scene on a Friday evening with seemingly hundreds of children swarming round the ground! This session is for U6 - U10s of all abilities. The most able children compete in 2 leagues with matches played usually on Monday evenings. Last year's U10s team were unbeaten in their 10 league games and narrowly lost their play-off final. Friendly matches are arranged for the other children against local clubs and there are also one off tournaments throughout the summer.

BTCC was able to offer coaching to the U6 age group in 2008 but it looks almost certain that unless we can recruit more coaches/helpers we won't be able to run this age group this season and other groups may also be affected.

In order to provide the best possible experience for the children on Friday evenings we need volunteers to come forward to work with the club's ECB Level 1 and Level 2 qualified coaches.

U11-U16

Training for the older age groups usually takes place on Saturdays and Sundays and fits in around the senior team's fixtures. This season we are running 2 U11s teams and one at all the other age groups up to U16. Buckingham Town CC has had great success at all youth age group levels, winning many county titles and providing representative cricketers to both Bucks County (boys & girls) and the Aylesbury District teams. Matches take place mid week and are 20 overs a side. The fixtures are all against teams in the north of the county with regional winners competing in a play-off series in late July.

WHAT WE NEED AND HOW YOU CAN HELP

Volunteers to come forward to assist with the coaching and running of the various age group teams. Even if you have not played cricket before your assistance is invaluable. The coaches can set out the session and provide all of the technical and coaching expertise but they need help running small sided games and with overall supervision of the children. No qualifications are required to start helping and if you enjoy the experience then ECB coaching courses are available for those who wish to develop their coaching skills further.

You do not need to commit to all of the training sessions.

If you can help or wish to discuss any of the matters raised please don't hesitate to contact me.

PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN

INDOOR TRAINING BEGINS ON 1 MAR 2009 - DETAILS TO FOLLOW SOON

IT WOULD BE GREAT IF WE COULD GET SOME VOLUNTEERS TO HELP WITH INDOOR TRAINING

Many thanks

(News item dated December 21st, 2008)

New Home for Town's 3rds - 2009
(News item dated December 12th, 2008)
Agreement has been reached between BTCC and Gawcott CC and the Local Parish Council for Town to use the Richard Roper Playing Fields, Gawcott for 2009 and hopefully subsequent seasons for Town's 3rd XI OTCL matches. League approval and inspection still have to carried out but this is unlikely to be a problem as the Gawcott CC facilities are excellent.

Thanks to Stoke Hammond CC and Sports Club for the use of their ground for the past two Seasons for the Saturday 3rds. BTCC appreciate their hospitality over this period.

Stoke Hammond CC, Champions of Div 4 of the Morrants Four Counties League in 2008, have decided to run a 2nd XI side in 2009 for the first time in their history. And we wish them well.

Town's fixture secretary, Bob Hutt, was part of Stoke's championship winning side in 2008.

Jason Ell is Town's new Saturday captain taking over from Rob Large. Jason will be looking to take the Club back into the Home Counties after their unlucky relegation this year.

AGM Report
(News item dated October 29th, 2008)
At Town's recent 139th AGM Jason Ell was elected as Town's new Saturday 1st XI skipper.

Dom Pritchard remains as Saturday 2nd XI skipper, likewise Neville Pritchard skippers the Saturday 3rds in 2009. Bob Hutt is in charge of the Sunday 2nds and Midweek XI again and the position of Sunday 1st XI captain is still to be sorted.

Maria Brunning has agreed to stay on as Club Secretary. Bob Hutt remains Fixture Secretary for his 12th year in the position.

Graham Stearn will carry on the dual role of Chairman/Treasurer but Graham stated the search for a new Treasurer was ongoing.

All three senior Saturday sides will be looking for promotion in 2009.

The Saturday 1st XI will be desperate to return to the Home Counties Premier League.

Town 2nd's were desperately unlucky not to win Div 4 of the Cherwell League in 2008 mainly due to bad weather.

Town's 3rds will hope to build on their Div 8B title success in 2008 by winning Div 7 in 2009.

F. G. Watts Sunday Challenge League 2008 Finals Day
(News item dated September 25th, 2008)
The Sunday 1st X1 finished runners-up to Old Northamptonians in both the FG Watts Northamptonshire Sunday Challenge League and Cup.

The League campaign saw the final game rained off to leave Buckingham joint second with Wellingborough.

The play-offs for the Cup were then moved to a twenty-twenty finals day held at Stony Stratford on Sunday.

In the opening game Town beat Wellingborough by 26 runs in a very controlled performance after having been put in. After an early loss, skipper Jonny Cater(34 from 30) and Robin Pritchard (14 from 12) put on 30 runs at better than a run a ball to give the innings impetus. This pace was maintained and managed by top scorer Graham Judd (37) with good support from Adrian Johnson (14) to finish on 124 for 7. On a slow wicket this proved too many for Wellingborough who finished on 98 for 9. Excellent 4 over spells from Rob Laird (1 - 11), Graham Judd (1-16), Chris Coates (2-26), Jonny Cater (2-27), Callum Cater (3-20) backed up by sound fielding and good wicket-keeping from Robin Pritchard (2 stumpings) kept them out of reach throughout the innings.

Wellingborough then played ONs and the signs of what was to come were evident as ONs beat Wellingborough by 134 runs!

In the final game ONs proved worthy winners beating Buckingham by 110 runs. Batting first ONs amassed 185 for 4 with consistent performances from all six batsmen - Willey and Mellor both scoring 36 as top scorers. Despite the high score the innings never got out of hand and Town ground fielded well - a couple of dropped catches possibly costing some runs. Judd, Matt Dipple and Callum Cater with 2 wickets the pick of the bowlers. In reply Town didn't recover from early wickets lost - some unfortunate - and despite a solid 25 from Judd were never in the race. A. Babar taking 4-15 to add to his 5 wickets against Wellingborough to be awarded player of the day.

A relatively successful season despite having to draw on a large number of players to meet the fixtures saw Town perform with some credit.

The day was well hosted by Stony and thanks go to the league organisers and sponsors.

Dogs not allowed

You are reminded that there are NO DOGS allowed on the Bourton Road ground. This is an Aylesbury Vale directive, and quite rightly so from a health point of view given the nature of the sport played and the considerable number of children using the facility.
