A Club History
Buckingham Town Cricket Club were founded in 1870.
The club started playing their friendly fixtures at Bourton Road,
a place that has been the club's home ever since.
Once formed, the club adopted the emblem of the chained swan
(pictured top left). The design was based on the swan of the De
Bohun family, who appeared at the time of the Norman conquest.
The emblem was adopted by the Gifford family, who were the Earls
of Buckingham, in the 13th century and then by the Stafford family,
the first Dukes of Buckingham. The County of Buckinghamshire also
adopted the badge as part of their emblem in more recent times.
This section of the website will be added to as the club looks
to scan old pictures and research as we build the history of the
club on-line.
