Sly breaks record
Paul Sly's record-breaking performance was a highlight of a
disappointing weekend at Bourton Road.
Sly routed Cumnor II to break the Cherwell League record for 2nd XI wickets in a season to
take his total to 64 dismissals. The previous record being 56 wickets, taken the past two
seasons.
The right-arm seamer has been a consistant performer for Town's second string in recent
years and with one match to go is chasing Wesley Rorrick of Aston Rowant 1st XI, who has
67 wickets, for the prize of top Cherwell League wicket taker.
Sly's 8 for 25 in just twelve overs was the only highlight as
Town II crashed to defeat against Cumnor II at Bourton Road.
His introduction after twenty overs saw Cumnor II go from 97 for 1 to 141all out as Sly's
eight wickets included two brilliant catches from stand-in skipper, Mike Taylor.
In reply, Town's batting faultered and despite Francois Smit's excellent 37, only Ryan
Spragg (15) and Shiv Talsania (12) got into double figures as their side was all out for
112 runs.
