Buckingham T own 3rd XI started their
League season with an outstanding win over a very strong Oxford & Horspath 5th
side in a high scoring game that saw Buckingham win off the last ball of the match.
Town, who were
put into bat, made a good start through Kevin Saving and Tim Archdeacon who was in
sparkling form hitting 63 as Buckingham reached 100 for the loss of just one wicket.
Paul Board (32)
kept the good work going until a middle order collapse saw Oxford back in the match.
Buckingham were
rescued with a tremendous 8th wicket partnership between Colt Jonny Cater, 12
not out, and Russell Thompson, who hammered the Oxford bowling to all parts of the ground.
He finished unbeaten on 62 runs, which including six sixes, as Buckingham closed on 256-7.
Oxford lost two
early wickets before Moss(49) and Humphreys (73) threatened to win the match for hosts
with some excellent batting. Both were dismissed by the off spin of Kevin Saving, who spun
the game back into Towns favour.
As the game went
to the wire, Oxford needed eight to win off the last over with two wickets in hand.
After scoring a
boundary, Nasim was bowled by Saving as the tension grew.
The final
delivery saw Town run out Oxfords last batsman as he tried to scramble to the
winning runs and win a thrilling game.
Suresh Talsania
4-50 and Kevin Saving 4-55 did very well with the ball supported by good efforts from Ben
Thorne and the Valambhia brothers Vish and Brijesh.
