BTCC CRY SIXES

September 21 2003 - BTCC sixes for CRY - 10.30am -6.30pm.

Cardiac Risk in the Young

BTCC will support a charity fundraising day of cricket for both junior & senior sections of the club and community to enjoy.

A senior competion of 6 sponsored teams and a jumior competition of 4 sponsored teams will compete for CRY cricket trophies.

It is hoped that each team will have a celebrity player and that other events on the ground throughout the day will make it a fun family day for all.

Every week 4 to 8 apparently 'fit and healthy' young people die in the UK of undiagnosed heart conditions. CRY is a charity founded in 1995 to provide support and information on cardiac risk in young people, providing :

Counselling - CRY offers help, support, and counselling to families who have suffered a loss.

CRY SS Club - CRY has launched the CRY Surgery Supporters Club for young people who have had, or are about to confront, potentially life saving surgery of implantation of diffibrillator, pacemaker or ablation, and want to talk to others of a similar age who have been through a similar experience.

Donations of machinery - CRY has donated £1/4 million of cardiac machinery to doctors surgeries and hospitals.

Screening and research - CRY operates a number of cardiac screening programmes, and funds medical research and the CRY centre for Sports Cardiology at the British Olympic medical centre.

The event hopes to raise awareness of cardiac risk in the young and to be able to generate funds to support CRY.

The President of CRY is Ian Botham OBE.

Patrons include Rob Andrew OBE, Jeremy Bates, Mark Cox MBE, Nick Gillingham MBE, Robert Jones MBE, Professor Bill McKenna, and Sir Steve Redgrave CBE.
