Buckingham
Town romped to a six-wicket success at fellow Cherwell League, Division One side Dinton on
Saturday.
New skipper Bryn Jones lost the toss and was
invited to field on a bitterly cold afternoon at Oxford Road.
A strong wind and quick outfield made
conditions difficult for the season's curtain raiser.
Chris Board's early movement saw Jones accept
a full length slip catch as Town collected their first wicket of the campaign.
Darren Risdon was aggressive from the start
as he attacked the Town bowling and forged a partnership worth 85 runs with Adrian Manger.
Arees Rauf, making his debut, showed great
promise with his off spin. Rauf's ability to bowl a tidy line and length will make him a
good acquisition in Town colours this term.
The introduction of Jason Ell saw him bowl
Manger before Rauf castled Jamie Manger. When Risdon had reached 73 from in 99 minutes,
Rauf struck again.
Dinton lost quick wickets as Brijesh
Valambhia's spin took two wickets in thirteen balls.
With Town now taking command, Rauf switched
ends to take two more wickets and finish with excellent debut figures of 4 for 35 in 16
overs.
Rob Large's seam claimed 2 for 13 as Dinton
were all out for 168 in 42 overs - eight of the victims being bowled.
Graham Judd and Board opened the innings and
worked the ball around the field.
Judd(19) fell early on before Large joined
Board in the middle and the pair put on 75 runs for the second wicket in just 43 minutes.
New signing Large made a run-a-ball fifty in
just 39 minutes before being trapped in front for 52 runs.
Board continued to flow and use his
lightening pace between the wickets to good effect. He reached his half century in 86
minutes before finally being stumped for 66 runs.
Matthew Thatcher (18 n/o) helped see Town
home before Rauf capped a fine debut by scoring the winning runs.
