1st XI defeat at Burnham
Town lost their trip to Burnham by 144 runs despite the efforts of Tarun Nethula and Bryn Jones.
Burnham were inserted by the Town skipper, James Gear, and batted in the same attacking manner as they did when they visited Bourton Road.
The home side looked to proceed at five runs an over with the talented Waqar Ahmed, a Pakistan 'A' all-rounder, in form with the bat.
When Anthony Romaine took an exceptional catch off the bowling of his captain in the last over before lunch Town had a glimmer of hope.
Gear's side then came back into the game in dramatic fashion in the first over after lunch. The fast-improving Nethula removed Khan and Fazal thanks to good Romaine and Gear catches as, in the space of five balls, Burnham had gone from 140 for 3 to 141 for 6.
A seventh wicket stand of 35 gave Burnham another base from which to build before Nethula and Gear took a wicket each with only two runs added.
Despite their efforts in the hot weather, Town were unable to break the partnership of Uddin and Ahmad for the ninth wicket.
The pair compiled a valuable 58-run stand before the last wicket pair took Burnham through to finish on 249 for 9 in their 60 overs.
With the home side keeping the old ball, the slow left arm of Shad was soon causing some problems.
As Town lost three early wickets, Jones and Nethula steadied the innings and played some delightful strokes.
The pair added 36 runs before Nethula (20) was caught with the score on 73.
Jones played a patient knock as Gear joined him in taking the score past the century mark.
When Gear (12) was dismissed, Jones attacked the bowling and reached a fine fifty from 82 balls in 100 minutes.
The opener's aggression brought quick runs before he was bowled for an outstanding 70 runs, including twelve boundaries.
Town's tail produced few runs, but the last pair of Mark James and Chris Harris competed well against the pace of Waqar, the quickest bowler in the division.
Shad bowled Harris to finish with 8 for 55 as Town were dismissed for 144 all out.
