Wolverton Town versus Buckingham Town

Buckingham Town opened their season with an emphatic 164-run victory at Wolverton Town's Osbourne Street ground.

Town's curtain raiser saw Skipper Bryn Jones win the toss and elect to bat on a glorious sunny afternoon.

Town paraded a new signing in seamer Corneil Meyer, while Paul Streater made his first appearance since rejoining the club. James Gear missed the trip due to a leg injury.

Anthony Romaine (43) and Matthew Thatcher (20) shared an opening stand of 77 runs before Town lost three quick wickets for just four runs.

Andy Thatcher (18) enjoyed an 81-run fourth-wicket partnership with Jones, who reached a fine half century from 46 balls in just 44 minutes. The Town captain was finally out for a 49-ball 58 runs.

Shiv Talsania, one of Town's promising under 16 players, played a sensible role late on and helped take his side through to post 236 for 7 from 45 overs. Talsania finished unbeaten on 30 not out.

The home side struggled early on as Chris Harris collected a brace of wickets, while at the other end Streater took a wicket as the opening bowlers did the damage.

Meyer took his first wicket for the club before Jason Ell's spell of 18 balls saw three wickets fall.

Ell finished the pick of the bowlers as his seven overs returned with figures of 3 for 7.

Talsania took the final wicket to fall as Wolverton were dismissed for 72 all out in 27.4 overs.
