Buckingham Town vs Bicester and North Oxford
Andy Bone writes:
League leaders Bicester and North Oxford beat Buckingham Town by
63 runs in a low-scoring local derby on saturday.
The champions-elect for the Oxford Times Cherwell League Division
One were inserted on a very damp Bourton Road track following the
heavy rain that had fallen leading up to the match.
BNOCC's skipper, Daryl Woods, batted well early on as Paul
Streater marked his return to the side by bowling Matt Collins and
having Oxfordshire's Ian Hawtin caught by Dan Harris.
The introduction of spin duo, James Gear and Jeetan Patel saw the
pair pick up where they left off from the victory at Bourton Vale.
Wickets fell at regular intervals as Alex Jewell (21) and Woods
(28) built a platform on a grafters' wicket.
Taqeer Hussain (19) and late order runs by Regan Badderley (21)
meant only four players reached double figures as BNOCC were
finally removed with two balls remaining for 141 runs, their
lowest total of the season.
Gear returned with three for 41 from his 15 overs while Patel's
spin saw him finish with five for 34 from 13.4 overs. Patel has
now taken 44 wickets during the league campaign.
BNOCC opened up with Lee Mason and Taqeer Hussain and it was by
far the best attack that had visited Bourton Road this season.
Mason trapped both openers in front as the seamer exploited the
conditions and his pace found variations of bounce.
Rob Large's introduction saw him get onto the front foot early
against the pace of Hussain and hit him in front of square on the
off-side.
Mason continued to reap rewards from the Bourton Road end as he
removed Large (15) and the middle order as Town were rocking with
seven down for just 46 runs.
Youngster Shiv Talsania played a good knock and found Streater a
solid partner as the pair added valuable runs for their
side. Streater (10) eventually was bowled by Paul Jeacock.
Chris Harris (11 not out) played some positive strokes but when
Hussain returned to castle Talsania, who batted again with promise
for his 13 runs, then trap Vish Valambhia in front, Town were all
out for 78.
Mason's match-winning spell of six for 36 in 12 overs was assisted
by Hussain's three for 27.
Cropredy 2nd XI vs Buckingham Town 3rd XI
Bob Hutt writes:
Buckingham Town 3rds drew their third game in a row and
with it the chance of winning division 8. Last minute
changes saw a weakened side again and 12 year old Callum Cater
made his debut for the Town and did well.
Cropedy batted first and scored a very useful 250-6 dec.
with Hamish Mure taking 4-51 bowling well.
Buckingham made a steady start through P.Board(28) and Stuart
Helps in fine form with 42.
Robin Pritchard (25) and Bob Hutt(18)
scored useful runs but Buckingham closed on 211-7.
