Bourton Vale vs Buckingham Town

Oxford Times Cherwell Cricket League, Division One

Andy Bone writes:
A good team performance was the key as Buckingham Town recorded an excellent 27-run victory at second placed Bourton Vale in the Oxford Times Cherwell Cricket League Division One on Saturday.

Town were inserted by their hosts on a stifling hot day in Bourton-on-the-water and, after losing Matthew Thatcher early on, Bryn Jones continued his rich vein of form as he and Anthony Romaine saw off Oxfordshire's opening bowler Ryan Newhook.

Jones (47) was trapped in front before Romaine took up the mantle for his side and he soon reached a fine half century with another boundary. His fifty came in 72 minutes and 63 balls.

He was eventually run out for 59, containing nine boundaries including a six, before Rob Large, with whom he shared a 54-run fifth wicket stand, departed in similar fashion for a 39-ball 27 runs.

Dan Harris helped his side post 220 for 8 and record maximum batting points as he hit five boundaries in an unbeaten forty.

Town kept the old ball and opened the bowling with spin duo Jeetan Patel and James Gear.

With Vale having scored 88 from 22 overs, Patel had opener Whitney caught by Dan Harris for 31 runs before Gear took three wickets in as many overs to leave the home side on the back foot.

Vale continued to chase a much-needed victory if they were to overturn Bicester and North Oxford's lead at the top of the table.

After Patel trapped Larner in front, Vale showed brief resistance before the introduction of Jason Ell saw another flurry of wickets.

Ell picked up two for 11 in four overs while Patel's spin claimed two victims, plus there was a run out that added to Vale's demise.

When Patel bowled Jenkins in the 48th over it gave Town their first away victory of the season as Vale were finally dismissed for 193.

Patel's 23-over spell saw him return with figures of four for 99 while Gear's earlier exploits of three for 76 in twenty overs had help Town on their way.

Buckingham Town 2nd XI vs Long Marston

Nick Board writes:
Town 2nd X1 repeated their winning formula from the previous week when they inflicted a 76 run defeat on Long Marston.

Put into bat first Town openers were immediately faced with two medium paced bowlers and a ring of fielders. With the ball not coming on to the bat, runs were hard to come by and when Mike Taylor was out LBW early on, it was down to Shiv Talsania (44) and Nick Board (21) to lay the foundation for a good score.

Then, useful contributions throughout the innings from Andy Thatcher(19), Tom Murray(15) and a fine tail end response from Richard Pengelly(41) enabled Town to reach 202 for the loss of 8 wickets at tea. Beasly bowled unchanged for 25 overs.

Long Marston lost wickets early on when the opening attack of Talasnia and Pengelly removed Roberts, Bowles and Demain in quick succession. However, Roberts J (43) put the visitors back on a winning track with some powerful off side shots and they needed a hundred runs off the last twenty overs. A smart run out saw Roberts back to the pavilion and a series of three LBW decions for Paul Sly saw the innings crumble to 126 all outwith twelve overs remaining.

Buckingham Town 3rd XI vs Aylesbury Town 2nd XI

Bob Hutt writes:
Buckingham Town 3rds had to settle for a draw against Aylesbury Town 2nds and still are second in the div 8 table.

Putting Aylesbury into bat Buckingham were not at their best in the field with several catches going down as the visitors scored a very useful 257-9(all out) with Intikab Alam batting well for his 83 after they were in trouble at 119-5. Hamisd Muir bowled well on his debut.

Buckingham in reply saw Staurt Helps(42) and Russell Thompson(57) give them a chance but Buckingham lost wickets at the wrong time and a needless run out did not help the cause.
