Buckingham Town v Milton Keynes Park
Oxford Times Cherwell Cricket League, Division One.
Andy Bone writes:
Buckingham Town came out on top of the drawn local derby against
MK Park at Bourton Road in saturday's Oxford Times Cherwell
Cricket League, Division One game.
After being inserted, Town lost early wickets before Anthony
Romaine and James Gear joined forces to add a 54-run partnership
for the third wicket.
Romaine (35) then edged to the wicketkeeper and Town lost two
quick wickets as the left arm of Mohammed Ghufran bowled an
excellent line in the corridor outside off stump.
Bryn Jones, who stood down to be replaced by Jeetan Patel in the
week, supported the confident looking Gear before a heavy shower
forced the players from the field for the fifth successive week.
The overs were adjusted and an early tea had been taken before
Town resumed their innings at 104 for 4. Just nine overs were
available for Town to post a total.
With MK Park looking in a good position when play finally got
underway again, Gear and Jones set about the visitors attack with
some aggressive hitting. The pair wrestled the initiative away
from the visitors and put Town firmly in to the ascendancy.
Gear's rise to bat at four has seen him excel in recent weeks as
the two former skippers savaged the bowling. MK Park's captain
Graham Simpson on the wrong end of the onslaught as his third over
was despatched for 28 runs.
A 94-ball half century came up for Gear in fine style before he
finally departed for an excellent 66 runs just seven balls later.
Jones and Patel nurdled the ball around at the end to help Town
post 195 for 5 in their readjusted 40 overs.
Town needed a positive start and found Paul Streater's early spell
finding bounce and movement the momentum they required.
Streater made Strong edge to Town's young wicketkeeper Jonny Cater
and castled Hollis as Town grew in confidence.
The MK Park dangerman, Jamie Wade, showed briefly why he such a
prolific run scorer with some classy strokeplay and he dominated
the third wicket stand with James Sprittles as they added 26 runs.
The swing of Jason Ell stemmed the flow of runs and at 54 for 2
the game was finely poised.
Ell dismissed Wade (32) and MK Park proceeded to lose five wickets
for just nine runs with Patel inflicting the damage as he rooted
out the middle order.
Mohammed hit some lusty blows before Streater took a difficult
skier that came out of the gloomy evening sky and MK Park's run
chase was effectively over.
James Clark and Stuart Keeping proved a difficult obstacle to
remove and, after another stoppage, the pair returned to bat out
the remaining four overs as MK Park finished 121 for 8 at stumps.
Streater bowled well for his three for 11 and Patel returned with
four for 37 as Town collected sixteen points to MK Park's five.

Henley v Buckingham Town 2nd XI
Oxford Times Cherwell Cricket League, Division Four.
Nick Board writes:
It was a father and son combination which enabled Town 2nd X1 to get back
to winning ways when they inflicted an eight wicket defeat away to title
chasers Henley.
In a rain affected match, Henley made steady progress with consistent contributions
but the introduction of seam bowler Suresh Talsania after twenty overs completely
changed the game as he ripped the middle order out with a superb spell of
fifteen overs taking 6-44, five of his victims clean bowled. Henley progressed
to 174 for nine at the half way stage, setting Town a run rate of four per
over.
Opening batsmen Shiv Talsania(68) and Mike Taylor(61) survived the new ball
and began to dominate the bowling and it was Talsania who led the way displaying
a range of shots on both sides of the wicket. The opening pair put on 129
for the first wicket, leaving Ed Jones (27) to complete the formalities
and take maximum points with a six over log on.

Buckingham Town 3rds had a winning draw(18pts) against
Bicester & N.Oxford 3rds(12pts).
Put into bat Buckingham made a useful 250-9. Opener
Paul Board batted very well scoring an excellent 88 and
found good support through 13year old Jamie Hirst who made
a superb 62 on his debut for the Town's thirds. Skipper Helps
(28) looked in good form until being caught behind.
Bicester never looked like winning or losing and closed on
183-8 with Simon Board taking 3-64.
