Shipton-under-Wychwood vs Buckingham Town
Oxford Times Cherwell Cricket League, Division One
Andy Bone writes:
Buckingham Town were left disappointed following their 26-run
defeat at Shipton-under-Wychwood after they built up a winning
position.
Batting first on a flat deck and quick outfield, Shipton's batsmen
got them off to a flier with Steve Bates the main protagonist.
Paul Streater, who is bowling well in his second spell at the
club, found the edges of Hemming then Bates (38) and Jonny Cater
gratefully excepted the chances behind the stumps.
Oxfordshire's Simon Hole shared a 79-run stand with Jason
Constable before Jeetan Patel was introduced in place of Streater,
who bowled a tidy ten over taking two for 37.
Patel bowled Constable (39) before fellow spinner James Gear
trapped Hole (41) leg before.
John Hartley (51) added some late order gusto as Shipton closed on
238 for 7 from their 50 overs.
Patel chipped in again with wickets - his three for 67 took his
tally to 32 wickets for the season - while Gear finished with two
for 59.
Shipton decided to keep the old ball and they proceeded to bowl
spin duo Phil Garner and Sean Miller all the way through Town's
innings.
Alex Romaine and Bryn Jones, promoted back to opening, gave Town a
steady start, adding 61 runs for the opening wicket.
Romaine (22) was bowled before his brother Anthony joined Jones at
the crease.
The new pairing pushed Town into an excellent position as Jones
reached his half century from 60 balls.
Having added a 70-run partnership, Jones was caught by Constable
off the bowling of Garner for 66 runs, including six boundaries.
Three runs later Gear, a match-winner on more than one occasion in
recent weeks, was caught and failed to trouble the scorers.
Dan Harris (11) supported Romaine, who reached a 60-ball fifty,
before Town lost three wickets in the space of eleven runs.
Romaine finished on 72 runs in a 62-minute innings, Rob Large was
run out while Harris was trapped in front attempting to sweep.
Patel's introduction saw him hit five boundaries in his first
thirteen deliveries faced and take Town past the two hundred mark
and they needed 27 runs to win from 24 balls.
Disaster then struck for Town in the 47th over as Patel (27) was
bowled and two other wickets fell within four balls.
When Streater was caught by Hartley off Garner and Town had lost
four wickets in eleven balls and added just two runs.
Garner finished with five for 117 while Miller returned with four
for 91 as Town were dismissed for 212 in 47.5 overs.

Buckingham Town 2nd XI vs Wallingford
Nick board writes:
Town 2nd X1 had the best of a winning draw against Wallingford on saturday
although they lacked the firepower to remove the opposition batsmen who
blocked out for twenty five overs.
Put into bat Town produced a solid performance against the slow opening
attack of Spindler and Prescott maintaing a healthy run rate throughout.
Taylor and Thatcher were lost LBW to Spindler in quick succession and then
Nick Board(37) and Matt Arnull(25) shared a partnership of sixty. Consistent
contributions were made made by Pengelly (22), Talsania (26) and Murray
(25)as Town completed their innings on 225.
Suresh Talsania made a lively start, taking two wickets in his first two
overs as did Pengelly who bowled the dangerous Sessions in his first over.
However, with Wallingford needing four runs an over with six wickets in
hand, they decided to play for the draw, hitting only seventy two runs off
their last twenty five overs. Although, a number of bowling changes were
made, the breakthrough never really came and the game limped through to
a disappointing draw.
On a positive note, Town are now producing a far better performance and
collected another vital sixteen points as they aim to move away from the
danger zone at the foot of the table.

Kingston Bagpuize 2nd XI vs Buckingham Town 3rd XI
Bob Hutt writes:
Buckingham Town 3rds beat rivals Kingston Bagpuize 2nds by
five wickets to go top of division 8. A superb all round
performance.
Kingston elected to bat and made a solid start and then
Buckingham came back into the game but a late flurry of runs saw
them close on a respectable 215-7.
Buckingham used just three bowlers and they all did well -
Skipper Stuart Helps 4-97 from 23 overs, Peter Heady 1-60 and
Dom Pritchard 2-55.
Neville Pritchard was in fine form behind the stumps with three
stumpings and one catch.
Buckingham after losing an early wicket recovered with Bob Hutt(31)
and Russell Thompson(17) and their good work was carried on by
S.Helps(33) and with Peter Heady 54n.o. playing the anchor role
Buckingham grabbed a vital win with Neville Pritchard hitting
a rapid 35 n.o. including two sixes.
