Buckingham Town vs Oxford Downs
Oxford Times Cherwell Cricket League, Division One.
Andy Bone writes:
A sparkling unbeaten century by Bryn Jones in a big opening stand
with Matthew Thatcher, who was also in fine form, helped
Buckingham Town romp to an eight-wicket victory against Oxford
Downs in the Oxford Times Cherwell League, Division One, on
saturday.
Jones became the first non-overseas player to score a Cherwell
Cricket League century for Town since Anthony Romaine's unbeaten
119 at Rover Cowley on 25th August 2001and he achieved it with
some style.
Opening with Thatcher, the pair were positive from the first
delivery in chasing the large total of 262 posted by Downs.
Thatcher played some beautiful shots early on and, along with
Jones, took Town along at a run-a-ball.
Thatcher was the first to reach his half century in 58 minutes
from 60 balls, his first of the season.
Five minutes later the in-form Jones got to his fifty, this time
from 58 balls.
The biggest opening stand of the season of 137, set the previous
week, was broken before Thatcher was finally caught for an
entertaining 71 runs. The opening stand was worth 142 and had been
reached in just the 27th over.
Anthony Romaine joined Jones in the middle and continued where
Thatcher had departed.
Jones reached a magnificent century in 109 balls before Romaine
was caught off the bowling of Lee for a classy 40 runs after the
pair had shared a 94-run stand.
Rob Large entered proceedings in dramatic style and smashed an
unbeaten 19 from just 10 balls in an explosive eight minutes.
It was fitting that Jones took Town to victory with his
seventeenth boundary of the day in just the 44th over. The opener
finishing undefeated on 118, his highest score for he club.
Early in the day, Town got off to a great start after Vish
Valambhia's wicket-double and Peter Heady's early strike had Downs
reeling at 15 for 3.
Danny Lee and Chris Sandbach (36) steadied the innings with a
century stand before Wes Bartlett's introduction saw the runs
flow.
Town toiled in the afternoon sun as Lee made 90 runs and Bartlett
plundered an unbeaten 79 to take their Downs side to 261 for 7 in
their 50 overs.
Heady worked hard in the heat to return with two for 46 in 12
overs while Valambhia picked up two for 16 from his five over
stint.

Didcot vs Buckingham Town 2nd XI
Nick Board writes:
Town bowlers answered the call when they bowled out Didcot to take maximum
points and secure a move away from the relegation zone.
However, it was not alll plain sailing as Town were asked to bat first and
struggled to dominate an accurate opening attack. Taylor(25) and Talsania(26)
provided a solid foundation but then disaster struck as four wickets tumbled
for eight runs. Nick Board (73) needed all his experience to settle the
innings and bat through and was supported by stands of fifty seven with
Matt Arnull(26) and sixty six with Suresh Talsania(41) as Town recovered
superbly to post 228 at the halfway stage.
After tea, Town got off to the best possible start when Spragg had opener
Pritchard caught by Andy thatcher off the very first delivery and Suresh
Talsania was soon in on the act when he removed the other opener Gibbs in
his second over.Talsania went on to take four wickets from his eighteen
overs and was supported well by Sly 2-24 as Town pushed for victory. With
the remaining two batsmen trying to bat out time, skipper Ed Jones turned
to leg spinner Shiv Talsania for variety and the youngster duly obliged
taking the last two wickets in quick succession as Didcot closed on 158.
Ed Jones "Our recent performances have not justified the talent in the team,
but this was a tremendous allround performance and has given us a boost
in confidence for our next game"

Dinton 3rd XI vs Buckingham Town 3rd XI
Bob Hutt writes:
Buckingham 3rds drew their league match against a "strenghened" dinton
side and now are second in division 8. Electing to bat Dinton made
a great start with M.Patel, dropped from the 2nds, scoring a hundred
in just 16 overs. C.Lee 100n.o. making his debut for the Dinton
Club and A.Ripley 68 n.o. saw Dinton to a massive 297-4 dec. Pick of
the bowlers was Ben Stafford with 3-69. Keeper Nev Pritchard and Stuart
Helps picked up injuries which did not help the cause.
Buckingham lost three cheap wickets but recovered slowly through Helps(43)
and Paul Board(34) and some good batting towards the end from Krishen
Talsania 62n.o. and Nev Pritchard 34 aided by 50 wides saw Buckingham
close on 284-8.
