Bicester and North Oxford vs Buckingham Town
Andy Bone writes:
Buckingham Town lost their local derby at Bicester and North
Oxford by 31 runs on Saturday in the Oxford Times Cherwell Cricket
League, Division One clash.
Town inserted Bicester and took two early wickets thanks to Chris
Harris and Paul Streater.
Richard Kelly (67) then dominated stands with Ian Hawtin (21) and
Taquir Hussain (42) before the spin duo of Jeetan Patel five for
52 and James Gear two for 53 pegged Bicester and North Oxford back
to a modest total of 185 for 9 at the halfway stage.
Town started brightly with Matthew Thatcher (30) and Alex Romaine
(11) opening up well for their side.
Quick wickets fell before Patel (45) and Gear (10) put down solid
foundations for the fifth wicket with a 39-run partnership.
Oxon spinner Paul Jeacock spun his way through Town's batting
order and finished with match winning figures of six for 33 in 18
overs.
Hussian chipped in with three for 41 as Town lost their last six
wickets for just 22 runs.
Buckingham Town 2st XI vs Chalgrove
Bob Hutt writes:
Buckingham Town 2nds just failed to win their match against
bottom of the table Chalgrove. Buckingham were inserted and
made a modest 179-9 thanks to Mike Taylor(74) and Vishal
Valambhia 31n.o. with David Shorter taking 5-15 for the Oxon
side.
Chalgrove hung onto a draw at 150-9. as Buckingham's
bowlers Ryan Spragg 3-4 and Paul Sly 3-41 just failed to win the
game for Buckingham.
Nick Board's view of the same game:
Although Town produced a number of creditable individual
performances they were unable to take maximum points against
basement club Chalgrove. Put into bat, Town opener Taylor
(74)continued his run of good form, controlling the innings on a
difficult wicket. He was supported along the way by the middle
order but it was a late partnership of thirty three runs between
Vish Valambhia and Tom Murray which took the score to a
respectable 179 at the half way stage.
Early wickets were essential if Chalgrove were to be bowled out
and Valambhia removed opener Stokes in his third over to set town
on their way. However, whilst the bowling was tight it lacked
penetration and Paul Sly was introduced and with gentle away swing
removed three batsmen in the space of eight overs, one of which
included a superb gulley catch by Tom Murray. Ryan Spragg
returning for his second spell produced a sparkling two overs
taking three wickets and putting Town in with a real chance of
winning. Although skipper Ed Jones rotated the bowling, the final
pair survived the last three overs to share the points.
