Oxford Times Cherwell Cricket League, Division One

Buckingham Town v Dinton

Andy Bone writes:
Buckingham Town and Dinton shared the spoils in a rain affected Oxford Times Cherwell Cricket League, Division One, 78-over game.

The toss was won by Buckingham, who elected to bat, but were soon forced from the field after a heavy shower, just twelve balls into the game.

Town openers Alex Romaine (24) and Matthew Thatcher (18) returned to the field and started to take command with some excellent strokeplay and quick singles.

But the rain forced the players from the field again in the fourteenth over and left the umpires to adjust the overs per innings for both sides.

When the players returned after the 31-minute stoppage, Town's openers were forced to start their innings for the third time in just over an hour and it clearly had an effect.

Thatcher edged behind before a direct hit ran out Alex Romaine, who was not even in the frame, and Town were soon 57 for 2.

Anthony Romaine was joined by his captain, Bryn Jones, and the pair played some aggressive shots as they forcefully increased the run rate.

Romaine was caught out after attempting to hit over the covers, but his 31-ball 34 runs had added some much-needed extra tempo to the Town innings.

Jones (16), Jeetan Patel (13) and James Gear (7) all looked to be positive as the dark gathering of clouds predicted another stoppage was soon to occur.

Adam Izzard (26) hit some lusty late order blows as Town closed on 171 all out in their reduced innings of 40 overs.

Scott Bowler claimed four for 58 from his 20-over stint and Kelvin Ripley picked up three for 18 in just three overs.

In reply, John Purcell (32) played a captain's innings at the top of the order and his side looked in a good position before the introduction of Patel. Dinton added just two runs after being 62 for 2 as the Kiwi spinner took three quick wickets.

Patel finished with five for 51 - he has taken more wickets after seven games than any Town bowler took in the 2003 season - from 14 overs as Dinton closed on 126 for 7 from their 38 overs.

RESULT: Match drawn

Brackley v Buckingham Town 2nd XI

Nick Board writes:
Town's second X1 game was poised interestingly when the rains came and forced the match to be abandoned. Inserted on a wet wicket, the Town openers immediately faced irregular bounce and Butler got Brackley off to a flying start when he removed Taylor in the first over with a ball that stopped and lifted. Left handers Talsania and Board dug in, and slowly took control but it was when Johnson had Talsania caught behind that the balance of play was changed completely allowing skipper Ed Jones to take the initiative away from Brackley. He hit a rapid fifty from thirty nine balls, being particularly severe on Aussie Johnson. At the other end, Nick Board produced a solid fifty and when the rains came, Town were well placed on 154 from thirty five overs.
