Buckingham Town U13s vs Winslow
Toby O'Neill writes:
Buckingham under 13s put in a commanding and professional effort to win a
competitive league match at Winslow by 38 runs.
Buckingham lost the toss and were put in to bat. Buckingham got off to a
good steady start with a strong opening partnership of 39 from Toby O'Neill
(23) and Josh Goff. But with the loss of four quick wickets Buckingham were
looking rather vulnerable. At this point partnerships between Josh Goodey
(26 not out) and Goff (30 retired) then Rob How (5 not out) rescued
Buckingham's innings to a respectable 111 for 4.
With the total that Buckingham had made, the fielding and bowling had to be
tight. Goff (1-13) and Alex Guntert (2-24) opened the bowling, the latter
picking up the key wickets of Callum Price and James Bishop, which boosted
the morale of the fielding side. Then accurate bowling from under 11 George
Baldock (2-14), O'Neill (1-11) and Richard Collett (1-6) controlled
Winslow's innings. Collett, with a great catch on the boundary to dismiss
Bishop and a good run out, and Jack Thompson with his maiden catch, had a
good day in the field. Winslow were finally dismissed for 73.
Chris Wilkes adds:
Simon Myatt of Winslow batted very well to retire on 31 with a six and 4
fours. The key to Town's win was fielding, the attacking fields set by
O'Neill as captain contributing to the six catches, including two each by
Goff and O'Neill, and two run-outs.
