Kidlington vs Buckingham Town
Roving reporter at Kidlington - with lens and pens - was Andy Bone.
Town lose despite Gear's Herculean effort
A sensational innings by James Gear almost grabbed Buckingham Town
a dramatic win at Kidlington before the home side secured a 17-run
victory.
Gear was the pivotal figure in his Town side's revival who, at 77
for 7 after 31 overs, were all but beaten.
Firstly, Gear dug deep and found Jason Ell (9) a good support as
the pair added 39 runs for the eighth wicket.
Paul Streater took on Ell's role with equal success as Gear
increased the run rate with a display of controlled hitting.
Gear reached a fine half century in 58 minutes with another
boundary.

Streater's role of feeding Gear the strike soon found Town surpass
the 150 mark as they advanced sweetly under their former Captain's
command.
Other bowlers found Gear in outstanding form as his well organised
shot selection and timing of the ball saw thirty-seven runs flow
from the next 18-balls. Streater also got amongst the boundaries.
Paul Streater played an excellent supporting role
Town reached the double century with three overs remaining before
Streater was trapped in front after a rare misjudgement, although
his contribution of 13 runs was vital.
Young Vish Valambhia was sadly bowled seven balls later to leave
the visibly disappointed Gear undefeated on 97-runs, from 60-balls
in just 83 minutes, and Town 18-runs short of their victory
target.
Gear finished with sixteen fours and three sixes in his
outstanding display at the crease.
James Gear strokes another boundary during his superb knock
Too many Town batsmen performed under par on the day, although
some credit must go to the Kidlington opening bowlers, Howes and
James, who bowled a tidy opening spell.
During the Kidlington innings, Streater 2 for 29 removed both
openers before Alan Buckingham (77) and Shabaz Ali (58) added a
third wicket stand worth 109-runs.

The introduction of spin duo Gear and Patel slowed down the run
rate considerably as Town's all round game improved.

Gear finally made the break through when he had Ali caught by Ell
at mid wicket.
THE BEFORE AND AFTER!
Just before James Gear removes Shabaz Ali thanks to a Jason Ell catch.
The pair celebrate the dismissal.
Buckingham kept up his solid display, although Patel's experience
was removing batsmen from the other end.
Town's fielding supported the bowlers as Adam Izzard, Jason Ell
and Rob Large showed safe hands, before Anthony Romaine's tidy
work behind the timbers gave him a stumping.
The team celebrate a dismissal!
Patel's off spin saw him return with 4 for 58, plus a sharp run
out, while Gear return with 2 for 58.

Kidlington closed on 218 for 9, a target Gear looked capable of
single-handedly over turning if he had not run out of team mates
at the other end.
