Oxford Downs 1st XI vs Buckingham Town 1st XI
Andy Bone writes:
A mature innings by youth player Jonny Cater and a good display in
the field were the highlights as Buckingham Town finished the
stronger in a drawn game at Oxford Downs on Saturday.
After Town were inserted, Alex Romaine (29), on his first game
back since returning from Brackley, played a classy knock at the
top of the innings. The left-hander lost partners at regular
intervals before he was unfortunate to face a delivery that kept
low and he was subsequently adjudged leg before.
With the score at 86 for 4, Jeetan Patel (20) and James Gear (11)
took their side past the century-mark.
With the score on 115, Town proceeded to lose four quick wickets
for just twelve runs with Luke List the chief destroyer. The Downs
all rounder finished with six for 68 from a 21-over stint.
Cater played a sensible innings and found Paul Streater (10), who
was carrying on his excellent form of the previous week, a solid
support.
The pair shared a ninth wicket stand of 46 runs in 14 overs - the
highest partnership of the match - and they took Town to a more
respectable 173 for 9.
Town then gifted Downs three overs due to an unnecessary run out
the very next ball.
The experience of needing to bat out their sides overs was learnt,
albeit in a disappointing manner.
Cater finished unbeaten on 41 runs and, at 15, played a mature
innings not befitting his years.
Town kept the old ball and saw Streater's pace beat Ian Caunce in
the first over, as Downs were a wicket down with just one run on
the board.
Fellow opener Steve Roberts was instrumental in the anchor role
for Downs as Streater and Patel bowled well in tandem.
Town's fielders supported their bowlers in a positive manner and
wickets started to tumble.
Patel chipped in with a brace, one courtesy of a good catch from
Gear, and he was on hand to hold a chance at backward point after
Jason Ell forced an error from Bartlett.
With Downs looking to have the upper hand, a stoppage for rain saw
the home side deducted five overs, while the target remained the
same.
Gear replaced Streater after the players returned and with his
first ball trapped Roberts leg before as the game swung back in
Town's favour.
List threatened only briefly but Town, with Streater returning for
a lively second spell, finished the stronger.
Patel's 23-over spell saw him bag three for 74, Gear returned with
two for 16 and Streater bowled better than his one for 42
suggested.

Buckingham Town 2nd XI vs Didcot 2nd XI
Nick Board writes:
Town 2nd X1 are struggling to find their good form of recent
seasons going down by six wickets to Didcot. Batting first, Town
got off to a lively start but lost skipper Ed Jones in the third
over. On a damp wicket and with a circle of fielders, the middle
order couldn't find any momentum although Paul Board (35) battled
well to support Mike Taylor (60) as they rebuilt the innings. A
late cameo from Ryan Spragg (23) pushed the score on to a
respectable 177 at the halfway stage. The Didcot opening batsman
immediately attacked Town's bowlers who, with the exception of
Mark James, gave away too many four balls. Braughton (58) and
Pritchard(37) were particularly severe on the bowling and the
vistors coasted home with ten overs to spare.
