Buckingahm Town v Wollaston

F.G.Watts Final

Andy Bone writes:
Buckingham Town finished runners up as they lost their F.G.Watts Final to Wollaston with just two balls to go in a rain affected match.

Town batted first and posted 141 all out, with one over still to be used after getting off to a to bad start at 23 for 3 with Rob Large, Dan Harris and James Gear out, scoring 9 runs between them.

Henry Culver batted well for 20, while Shiv Talsania hung around for a 44-ball six.

Driver did the early damage for Wollaston with three for 22 in seven overs.

Will Myers steadied the Town innings as he batted very well for 28, Jonny Cater chipped in with 18 and Peter Heady made a good 27 to help take their side past the century mark.

A quick fire 11 not out from Vish Valambhia helped to bring a reasonable total in difficult conditions.

Around the interval another shower saw 30 minutes lost to rain and Wollaston were set a readjusted target of 127 from 36 overs.

Wollaston got off to a quick start, scoring at four an over for the first ten overs and only losing one wicket in the process.

The introduction of Gear, who bowled really well 2-18 from 9 overs and supported by Heady put Town back in the game.

Wollaston batted well after that and at 105 for 3 from 28 overs looked well set before the game swung back towards Town.

Dom Pritchard and Rob Large bowled brilliantly as wickets fell, Pritchard taking wickets in consecutive balls.

Pritchard finished with tidy figures of three for 26 from eight overs, Large collected one for 15 from 3.4 overs as a close catch decision ruled the batsman did not get the touch and Wollaston took the trophy in the last over to finish a very exciting end to the game, despite Town's best efforts.

Liam Bates, the young Wollaston opener, was Man of the Match with a 40 that was really the difference between the two sides, although Town's Myers and Pritchard and Wollaston's Driver all received mentions.

Wolverton U14 vs Buckingham Town U13

Shires U14 Plate Final

Chris Wilkes writes:
Town under 13s ended the season with a convincing win over Wolverton in the Shires U14 plate final played at Overstone Park. In a match reduced to 20 overs, Town got off to a flying start. Opening pair Jamie Hirst (48) and Nick Wilkes (67) put on 119 in 13 overs, their third 50 partnership in a row. The innings closed on 158-4 after Stuart Powell (16 not out) hit four consecutive boundaries.

Tight bowling and fielding meant that Wolverton never really threatened the target. Wilkes combined with Tom Jones to break an opening stand of 30 with a run-out, then Hirst combined with Toby O'Neill for another. The other wickets fell to bowlers O'Neill, Josh Goodey, Max Jarman and Wilkes (2), assisted by two sharp stumpings from Jones, before the innings closed on 99 for 7.
