Buckingham Town Cricket Club - August 6th 2005
Banbury XX vs Buckingham Town
Andy Bone writes:
Buckingham Town drew a tactical game at Banbury XX from the
visitors perspective.
Missing key all rounder and captain James Gear, along with seamers
Jason Ell and Chris Harris - players who had bowled 33 of the 50
overs the previous week - Town's stand-in skipper Rob Large lost
the toss and was invited to field.
Town started brightly against an experienced Banbury XX line-up
who saw Richard Hawkins (55), Martin Thomas (46) and a late order
flurry by Dave Clark (52) see the home side post potentially too
large a total to chase with 282 for 7.
Rob Large claimed two for 34 and Sohail Nasir two for 60, while
Graham Judd and youngsters Dom Pritchard and Krishan Talsania
grabbed a wicket each. Town's inexperienced attack also conceded
32 runs in bowling extras, although on a positive note they did
claim seven points for their efforts.
At tea, Town's first priority was to reach 220 runs and claim the
maximum ten batting points as they fight against relegation.
Nasir and Dan Harris set about the Twenty Club attack and soon
raced to 70 in just eleven overs.
Harris (21) was then well caught by a full-length dive by John
Wright, while Khalid caught Nasir (47) on the boundary before
James Tomlinson was trapped in front all in the space of seven
runs.
Large and Graham Judd steadied the innings as they took Town past
the century mark.
Large reached a fine half century from just 45 balls before being
bowled one run later, while Judd's straight six saw him depart
next ball for another solid knock of 38.
When Anthony Romaine was adjudged leg before, Town had stuttered
again and were still 42 runs short of their main aim.
Jonny Cater, batting with experience beyond his 16 years, and Bryn
Jones looked very solid as they batted out the remaining ten overs
and, more importantly, took Town past maximum batting points.
Cater finished undefeated on 27, while Jones made an unbeaten 29
as Town closed on 231 for 6 at stumps.
Town made 17 points to Banbury XX's 16 points.

Buckingham Town 2nd XI vs Brackley
Nick Board writes:
Town seconds completely outplayed Brackley to take maximum points
in an ill tempered local derby on Saturday.
Brackley were asked to bat first and due to unavailabilities,
found themselves facing an unusual opening attack of Maggs
Thatcher and Richard Pengelly. But, these two bowled well and got
the early breakthrough when they took the wicket of Cartwright in
the fourth over caught by Russ Thompson at slip.
Hedger(66) played the anchor role for Brackley and was about to
increase the momentum when the wily Paul Sly (3-39) had him caught
at mid off. Wickets then began to fall at regular intervals and
Vish Valambhia bowled his best spell of the season taking two for
twenty three from 12 overs. A classy stumping by Andy Thatcher to
remove Mounsdon and a brilliant run out by Tomlinson to dismiss
Van Rensberg restricted the visitors to 162-8 from their fifty
overs.
Needing a run rate of just over three per over, Brackley started
with the old ball to take the pace off but Maggs Thatcher (39) and
Ed Jones (51) kept up with the required rate before they were both
out, but by then had taken the game away from Brackley. As the
game progressed, Town umpire John Pengelly found himself at the
centre of a heated discussion with some of the Brackley players
who had become frustrated and had to call on the opposition
captain to help calm the situation down. In the hope of securing
wickets, the bowling was rotated and M Cartwright picked up both
Ben Stafford and Andy Thatcher, whilst Nick Board(31no) batted
through to ensure the win and maximum points with eight overs
remaining.

Buckingham Town 3rd XI vs Morris Motors 2nd XI
Bob Hutt writes:
Buckingham Town 3rds lost to Morris Motors 2nds by 4 wickets in
their saturday league match.
Buckingham elected to bat and after R.Pritchard(27) and
T.Archdeacon(24) had given them a steady start they slumped to
79-5.
Skipper Hutt(26) along with Nev Pritchard(25) scored valuable runs
along with K. Rowlingson(20) and A. Peshavaria(14) as a respectable
total of 176-9 was made.
Morris Motors made a steady start but at 101-6 Buckingham were in
with a chance but the visitors reached their goal without further
loss.
Jon Merrill took 3-27 but the highlight of the day was a
remarkable catch by colt Harsh Jethra, a truly superb catch.
