Buckingham Town vs Oxford 2nd XI
Andy Bone writes:
Buckingham Town are off of the bottom of the Oxford Times Cherwell
Cricket League Division One table after recording their first home
victory of the season on Saturday.
The result looked unlikely at drinks at the halfway stage of the
Oxford 2nd innings as Town bowlers struggled to find their length.
The only bright spots in the first 25 overs were when 15 year old
Krishan Talsania found the edge of Ian Crosby's bat and Jonny
Cater duly accepted a regulation catch behind the stumps before
Jason Ell castled Vainker.
Thomas and Williams feasted on too many shortly pitched deliveries
as Oxford 2nd raced to 139 for 2 in just 27 overs.
With the visitors set and ready to launch an assault, the
introduction of James Gear and home debutante Sohail Nasir bowling
in tandem stemmed the flow with immediate effect.
Not only did the run rate slow up but Town's two slow right armers
managed to build pressure, backed up by another solid fielding
display, and wickets began to tumble.
The improving 16 year old Cater was sharp behind the wickets as
the middle order added just six runs after Thomas (45) and
Williams (28) had looked like batting Town out of the game.
In an amazing spell, six wickets tumbled for just 19 runs as the
game changed direction completely.
Claasen (17) held up Town briefly before Oxford 2nds Captain Ross
Buchanan guided his side through to 197 for 9 with an unbeaten 19
at tea.
Gear's 15-over stint bagged him three for 24 while Nasir's 14-over
spell saw him return with three for 45.
Nasir opened with Mike Taylor (7) and the pair added 28 for the
opening wicket before Dan Harris came to the crease.
Nasir lead the way with some quality strokeplay while Harris
played a sensible supporting role as the Rawalpindi left hander
reached his second half century in as many games with just 70 runs
on the board.
Town's batting had more confidence with Nasir increasing the tempo
as dark clouds appeared around the ground and play went on through
a light drizzle.
Nasir was finally out just nine runs short of his century after he
had added a second wicket stand worth a match winning 107 runs.
Harris (28) was caught out attempting to go over the top just
three runs later as Town looked to their new batsmen to lead the
side home.
James Tomlinson (2) edged behind before the experience of Graham
Judd saw him become the ideal foyle as Rob Large excelled in the
heat of battle. His aggressive knock included eleven boundaries,
the last one of which gave Town victory and a vital thirty points.
Large closed unbeaten on 53 while Judd's innings of 6 not out had
helped steady Town's nerves.

Wallingford vs Buckingham Town 2nd XI
Nick Board writes:
Town 2nd X1's recent run of good performances came to a
disappointing end when they lost to Wallingford on saturday.
Put into bat on a pitch of variable bounce Town lost Jones(13)
early on when he was bowled by veteran bowler Spindler but a
partnership of eighty five runs between Shive Talsania(51) and
Nick Board(30) put Town on track at the halfway stage. With five
of the middle order all reaching double figures a creditable total
of 215 was reached at tea but with a short boundary and bumpy
outfield was always likely to be not enough.
Wallingford languishing at the bottom of the table, immediately
attacked and Ainsworth(87) throwing caution to the wind with some
risky shots took the game away from Town. Paul Sly bowled well to
collect three wickets from his eleven overs although the addition
of forty nine extras, mainly due to some wayward bowling early on,
did little to help Town's cause and Wallingford romped home for
the loss of six wickets with overs to spare.

Footnote: result overturned
The defeat Buckingham II endured at Wallingford has been overturned after
the home side played an unregistered player - an issue the Wallingford
Chairman has written to Town to apologise for.
Town has been awarded the win - an award of 15 points extra after
picking up 15 points in the original defeat.
Buckingham Town 3rd XI vs Bourton Vale 2nd XI
Bob Hutt writes:
Buckingham Town 3rds suffered a heavy defeat by 161 runs against
title chasing Bourton Vale 2nds.
Bourton with a strong side batted first and scored a massive 311-3
and declared off of 42 overs. Buckinghamn's only wicket taker was
Chris Colbourn with 3-110.
Young Lawrence DeSilva bowled well for Town.
Buckingham made the worst possible start crashing to 15-5
against spinners Shepherd and Masson but skipper Hutt(32)
and Dilshan Direkze(23) improved matters and a good knock
from Keith Rowlingson 43n.o. gave Buckingham some
respectability as they were bowled for 150 to take 9 points
from the match.
