Buckingham Town vs Shipton
Andy Bone writes:
A Captain's performance by James Gear, along with dogged knocks by
Graham Judd and Jonny Cater, saw Buckingham Town grab an unlikely
draw after being reduced to 14 for 5.
The character shown during saturday's home game against
Shipton-under-Wychwood has helped lift Town out of the relegation
zone.
Gear lost the toss and was unsurprisingly inserted on a Bourton
road green topped track on a damp afternoon.
Shipton seamer Chris Panter exploited the conditions, bowling in
the right areas, as he removed Dan Harris and James Tomlinson in
successive deliveries. In his next over he saw Sohail Nasir edge
to slip before the returning Anthony Romaine received a delivery
that lifted and was caught behind.
When Rob Large was castled by Jason Constable, Town were reeling
at 14 for 5.
This brought Judd and Cater to the wicket who, between them, knew
they still had 43 overs to bat and they proceeded to play
beautifully. The pair battled well as they took the score to 87
before Cater saw a delivery clip the top of his off stump. He had
made an excellent 36 and had batted three minutes short of an
hour.
Skipper Gear joined Judd in the middle and the pair batted through
until the final over.
Judd's workman-like performance saw him reach a fine half century
from 113 balls before his skipper, slowly opening up, soon past
fifty, this time in 70 balls.
Gear was in savage mood as he hit nine fours and two sixes as Town
passed the 200-mark, something deemed highly unlikely just two
hours earlier.
Judd, ever the team player, was run out for 57, before Gear
finished unbeaten on 89 as Town posted 209 for 7. Town had taken
93 runs off the final ten overs.
In reply, Shipton started brightly and having lost just two
wickets - Andy Hemming edged Jason Ell to Large as slip and Nasir
bowled Charles Brain - looked set up needing just 73 runs to win
from the last 14 overs.
The 37th over proved to be the turning point as Gear bowled
Hartley, had Constable caught behind and castled Bowman.
Dangerman Steve Bates started to open up but was run out by a
sensational direct hit by Tomlinson who, from deep mid on, knocked
down the stumps with Bates believing he was safe running to the
opposite end.
Having inserted Town, Shipton had to keep going and did so as
Panter's superb knock swung the game back towards the visitors
grasp.
Chris Harris was on hand twice to accept catches before Cater
stumped Morris to leave Town with three balls at the number
eleven, who sadly for the home side looked solid as the game ended
in a draw with Shipton closing on 203 for 9.
Gear finished with four for 59, while Nasir chipped in with three
for 62.

Cumnor 2nd XI vs Buckingham Town 2nd XI
Nick Board writes:
Town 2nd X1 gained a valuable thirteen points in their away game
against promotion contenders Cumnoron saturday.
In a rain affected match, reduced to forty four overs, Town
elected to bat first on a wicket sodden by a downpour just before
the game was due to start. Slow but steady progress was made by
opener Maggs Thatcher(25) although Tomlinson, Talsania and Andy
Thatcher were all lost cheaply to catches.
Skipper Ed Jones(43) led from the front and together with Russel
Thompson(29) recovered the situation adding fifty to the total
before Thompson departed adjudged LBW to Easterbrook. A useful
contrbution by Tom Murray(16) maintained the momentum and a rapid
thirty five from twenty three balls by Vish Valambhia saw Town's
total reach 188 at the half way stage.Easterbrook(5-35) was
Cumnor's most successful bowler supported by Thompson(3-51)
In reply, Johnson(35) and Kirsten(19) got off to a flying start
punishing anything overpitched but this changed with the
introduction of Pritchard who took the pace off the ball, claiming
three wickets including that of opener Johnson with his first
delivery. Town's fielding was of a high standard with four
excellent catches taken, two each for Ben Stafford and Russell
Thompson.
However, Cumnor's strength in batting was evident as both
Thompson(36) and Burt (58) took control allowing the home side to
reach Town's total with three overs remaining.

Oxford & Bletchingdon 3rd XI vs Buckingham Town 3rd XI
Bob Hutt writes:
Buckingham Town 3rds lost their league match away to Oxford &
Bletchingdon 3rds by 8 wickets.
Buckingham batted first and struggled and without doubt had the
worse of the rain affected wicket.
Robin Pritchard(27) and Keith Rowlingson 30n.o. did well with the
bat as Buckingham crashed to 104 all out.
The Oxfordshire side won comfortably but all the Buckingham
bowlers did well.
