Buckingham Town U13 vs Gerrards Cross U13 (County Cup)
Karen Cater writes:
Buckingham Town under 13's lifted the Bucks Cup after a thrilling
encounter against Gerrards Cross.
Winning the toss town put their opponents into bat, looking like a
good decision as Jack Deal's opening loosener scattered the bails
& a superb direct hitting run out from Adam Davies left them two
down after the first over. Runs came slowly under Deal & Adam Bone
until the fifth over when Rob Laird took a cool catch from Deal's
bowling.
Deal was again in the action during the seventh over
running out the batsman stood out of his crease. Partnerships were
now starting to form & boundaries being found before Steve
Brunning made a breakthrough in the nineth over when the batsman
returned his ball for a safe catch.
Batsmen Hales & Lewis made a
good stand together nudging the score up towards & beyond
respectability before Laird found Hales middle stump in the
sixteenth before he could retire. Lewis batted well to earn
retirement & Shaw ran his replacement out off the next
ball. Gerrards Cross finished on a reachable but tricky 100-7 from
their 20 overs.
In reply Town's openers, Deal & Tom Hill came out positively;
Deal finding the boundary from his second ball. The dream cruise
to victory was not to be & Hill(2) bacame the first victim getting
caught in the deep in the third over. Bone came to the crease &
the pair batted well until Deal was bowled by an awkward short
ball for 14 & his replacement Laird found the second ball
irresistible & was caught before troubling the scorers. In came
Callum Cater(5) who delicately placed the ball to keep the runs
ticking over until he too looked to hit a short ball again finding
the fielder.
Bone played well, rode his luck a little getting
dropped from a skier until he was bowled in the thirteenth over
for 17. With good bats still in the bag but overs running out the
game hung in the balance. Gerrards Cross were understandably
optimistic but they had little idea what was in store. Steve
Brunning(21 no) & Ali Shaw(25 no) were more than equal to the
challenge batting with aplomb. The winning partnership was worth a
fantastic 49 & with three overs left needed a run a ball, Brunning
hitting the winning run in the final over with four balls to spare
much to the delight of Manager Paul Hill & all the supporting
spectators.
