Buckingham Town vs Dinton

Andy Bone writes:
Buckingham Town suffered defeated to Dinton, a result which leaves them rooted to the bottom of the Oxford Times Cherwell League Division One table with eight games remaining.

Town, who were missing strike bowler Chris Harris, elected to bowl first after winning the toss. They proceeded to reduce Dinton to 198 all out, a score they would have accepted when the first ball was bowled.

Matt Arnull and Jason Ell bowled a very tight opening spell and started brightly with Purcell run out in the second over.

Bucks Captain Paul Atkins was caught behind by the fast-improving Jonny Cater off the bowling of Ell before the next ball the seamer castled Scott.

The introduction of Gear saw wickets fall, thanks to a catch and a smart stumping by Cater.

A run out after a superb long-range throw by Dan Harris and a Vish Valambhia strike saw Dinton struggle.

Ashley Smith, who nearly joined Town eighteen months ago, hung around and proved a thorn in Town's side all afternoon. He showed dogged resistance as he reached a fine half century, even after surviving a big leg before shout from Charles Ramson's first delivery. The youngster opened up as wickets fell the other end and showed a nice aray of shots in an excellent innings.

Ten runs short of his century another Cater stumping off Gear saw Smith removed before Arnull returned to remove the tail thanks to an easy chance for Matthew Thatcher and a skier which Leigh Tomlinson made look easier than it was to accept.

With Town in positive mood at tea the situation soon changed as they lost three wickets for just twelve runs. A position from which they never recovered.

James Tomlinson batted very well and showed a sharpness between the wickets which gave Town a lifeline.

Sadly wickets fell the other end, including two run outs, as Tomlinson (44) was stumped trying to increase the tempo of the innings.

Valambhia clubbed seventeen from just ten balls before being bowled to leave Town feeling it was a game they had lost rather than Dinton had won.

Ripley's three for 20 and Bowler's three for 39 had done the early damage to help give their side a 62-run win and the double over the Bourton Road club.

Horspath vs Buckingham Town 2nd XI

Nick Board writes:
Town 2nd X1 were overpowered by title contenders Horspath when they lost their league match on Saturday.

Electing to bat first, Town openers Taylor(87) and Talsania(28) got off to their customary solid start adding 83 for the first wicket although Cummings and Eason bowled accurately and forced the run rate down. Graham Judd and Ed Jones(17) attempted to put some urgency into the innings but were quickly lost due to an excellent catch and an unfortunate run out. Nick Board(65) then joined Taylor an added 108 for the fifth wicket in sixteen overs before Taylor was run out. Board was caught in the last over having hit seven fours in his 57 ball innings and Town's total having reached a challenging 238 for 7.

Taking the old ball, Town opened the bowling with Dom Pritchard and Graham Judd on what was now a very flat pitch.Pritchard (3-86) shook Horspath removing Decairies, caught by brother Robin, Plested and A Eason. However, the in form Rob Eason (68 no) and Cawston (60 no) demonstrated the depth in batting Horspath have and they coasted to victory for the loss of three wickets.
