Bourton Vale vs Buckingham Town
Jason Ell writes:
Buckingham Town won their first Cherwell League game away at
Bourton Vale thanks to a very good team performance.
Buckingham Town lost the toss and were put into bat by Bourton
Vale. The opening pair of Bryn Jones & Dan Harris got town off to
a steady start. The latter being bowled for 22.
Rob Large then came to the crease after the loss of Dan Harris
with the score on 39 for 1 of 10 overs. Large took a shine to the
Bouton Vale bowling by smashing 35 runs of 32 balls, before being
adjudged LBW off the bowling of Anderson. Jones shortly followed
Large back to the pavilion with a very well worked 40 and the
score on 116 for 3 of 26 overs.
Two more wickets fell and the introduction of Jonny Cater at no.6
& Lee Tomlinson at no. 7 worked well for Buckingham Town as the
pair put on 87 runs with some positive stroke play and very sharp
running between the wickets that just so happened to rattle the
Bourton Vale Players.
Jonny Cater secured his first Cherwell League 50 off 52 balls but
then the partnership ended with Lee Tomlinson the first to go
scoring 28 off 32 balls with the score on 230 for 6 with 2 overs
to go. Buckingham Town finished the innings on 242 for 7, Jonny
Cater top scoring with 68 not out. Ell finished on 1 not out off 1
ball.
In reply, Bourton Vale started slowly and were 2 wickets
down after the first seven overs bowled with the score at 21. Both
wickets falling to Town paceman Chris Harris.
With 2 early
wickets gone this put pressure on Bourton Vale's Winstanly &
Lazenbury who handled it well. With no further wickets falling
after 18 overs Buckingham Town Skipper James Gear introduced Jason
Ell to the attack. Ell's first over was a maiden, then he struck
by removing the dangerous Lazenbury (36) caught by Lee Tomlinson.
Ell's 3rd over came round and he struck again, Winstanly (32) was
caught by 1st team debutant Dom Pritchard. The wickets started to
tumble in the 24th over when Matt Arnull captured two scalps in 2
consecutive deliveries. Leaving Bourton Vale on 88 for 6, with the
Bourton Vale skipper furious after winning the toss and electing
to bat second.
Bourton Vale steadied a sinking ship with Kyte &
Cartlidge batting positively but then there was the introduction
of part-time bowler Bryn Jones into the attack who bowled
Cartlidge (17) with his first delivery of his 2nd over and then in
his 3rd over took a stunning caught & bowled to dismiss Kyte (29)
At this point Bourton Vale were struggling and going nowhere on
141 for 8, with no more wickets falling Town Skipper Gear turned
to opening bowler Chris Harris in the 41st over and then in the
43rd over the castles were tumbling when he removed Pike & Carlson
in two consecutive deliveries leaving Chris Harris the chance of a
hat-trick when Buckingham Town play hosts to MK Park on Saturday.
