Shipton-under-Wychwood vs Buckingham Town
Oxford Times Cherwell League
Andy Bone writes:
Chris Harris returned with his best performance for Buckingham
Town although his side went down to a 126-run defeat at
high-flying Shipton-under-Wychwood in their Oxford Times Cherwell
league encounter on Saturday.
With five players unavailable, it gave some of Town's promising
youngsters a chance to step up to the mark.
After inserting the home side, Harris trapped Steve Bates in front
in the first over to give his side a great start.
Simon Hole and Paul Hemming had other ideas as they added a
209-run second wicket partnership. They were aided by a dropped
catch as Hole made a century while Hemming played an anchor role.
Gear had Hole caught by Russell Thompson for 113 before Jason
Constable entered proceedings with twelve overs remaining.
The left-hander launched in to Town's bowling as Harris returned
and immediately had Hemming (86) caught behind by Jonny Cater.
While Constable flayed with the willow, Harris took wickets in
each of his four overs while Matt Arnull chipped in with a wicket
at the end.
Constable smashed 62 runs from just 26-ball, including 15 fours
and two sixes, before Harris bowled him.
Shipton posted 325 for 9 from 50 overs with Chris Harris taking
six for 75 in seventeen overs while Arnull and Gear chipped in
with a wicket each.
In reply Town set off at a quick pace as Dan Harris (20), Jonny
Cater (38) and Leigh Tomlinson (20) all made starts but were
unable to convert these into big scores.
James Tomlinson (26) and Shiv Talsania (22) followed suit in the
middle order before Town lost five wickets for just eighteen runs.
Arnull and Vish Valambhia then had a 40-run last wicket stand as
they took their side to 199 before Valambhia (24) was
caught. Arnull finished unbeaten on 24 from his number nine berth.
