Dinton vs Buckingham Town

Cherwell League Division 1

Andy Bone writes:
Rob Large became only the second non-overseas player in four years to score a league century as Buckingham Town went down to defeat in Saturday's opening Oxford Times Cherwell Cricket League Division One game at Dinton.

Large held the top of the innings together with a valuable knock as he and Dan Harris (14) shared a 69-run second wicket partnership.

The improving Shiv Talsania (25) chipped in before being adjudged leg before as Large reached his half century with another boundary. It took the former Exeter University batsman 62 balls as he continued his good early season form.

Skipper James Gear gave the innings late order momentum with some hefty blows, including two sixes, before finally being caught for 37 runs from just 27 balls.

Large continued in a similar vein as his seventeenth boundary gave him a superb century from 109 balls.

Jonny Cater (5) came in at the end and like Large was dismissed in trying to runs.

Large finished by being caught in the deep for a 103 runs from 116 balls and had helped his side post 217 for 7.

Rodney Browne was the pick of the Dinton bowling with three for 39 from ten overs.

In reply, Dinton paraded new signing Paul Atkins to open the innings on his debut. The Bucks Skipper started brightly and proved to be the backbone of the home side's innings.

Early on, Town did not bowl as well as they would have hoped to as John Purcell and Atkins put on 81 for the opening wicket.

The introduction of Jason Ell and Matt Arnull bowling in tandem stemmed the runs with Ell forcing Purcell to edge to Cater behind the stumps.

King (22) chipped in as Atkins held the innings together, surviving a bat-pad decision that was caught by Large at first slip.

The introduction of Gear saw him pick up the wicket of King as Dinton carried on until they got within one shot from victory.

Dan Harris was introduced and had Atkins caught by Bryn Jones just four runs short of his century.

Talsania then held a two catches, one a superb effort, as wickets tumbled.

Dinton finally made it home with a six from Darren Risden despite a wobble late-on.

Dan Harris collected three for 6, Gear two for 42 while Chris Harris and Ell grabbed a wicket each as Town picked up a creditable sixteen points for their efforts.
