Buckingham Town U14 vs North Crawley U14 (Shires League Trophy Final)
Anil Jethra writes:
Tom Jones (pictured holding the cup) led Buckingham Town to
victory in the under 14s Shires League trophy with a good team
effort. Buckingham Town won the finals on September 11, 2005
played at Overstone cricket club ground. Put into bat by the
opposition North Crawley Cricket Club, Buckingham Town lost an
early wicket at the score of 16. However, Dilshan Direkze (54) and
Nick Wilkes (46) had a tremendous partnership of 68 runs for the
second wicket. With five other batsmen chipping in, Town finished
the innings on 149 for 5 setting a victory target of 150 for North
Crawley.
Town’s opening bowlers Jonny Neeves and Harsh Jethra kept the
dangerous opening pair of North Crawley quiet. The tight bowling
and fielding paid off as both openers were back within the first
10 overs. Hodge was out to a stunning one-handed slips catch by
Jamie Hirst off the bowling of Jonny Neeves and Walker was run out
by substitute fielder Danny Hobden. The final chase was contained
by some more tight spells by Stuart Powell (3 for 18) and Josh
Goodey (2 for 18). In the end Town took five catches and two run
outs as North Crawley were 134 for 8 and fell short by 15 runs.
The umpires awarded man of the match to Direkze and champagne
moment to Hobden, in honour of Ricky Ponting!
