Buckingham Town Cricket Club - September 3rd 2005
Kidlington v Buckingham Town
Andy Bone writes:
Buckingham Town survived a dramatic last day as the Oxford Times
Cherwell Cricket League Division One went down to the penultimate
over of the season in a compelling finale.
Town had good fortune as they were inserted after losing the toss,
while Bourton Vale won the toss and were forced to gamble as they
invited MK Park to bat.
Leigh Tomlinson stepped up to fill the opening berth and proceeded
to anchor the innings as Hussain took three early wickets.
Graham Judd (16) and James Gear (24) both batted well as Tomlinson
reached a fine half century.
Town slowly accumulated batting points before Tomlinson (61) was
stumped as Town looked to accelerate with just seven overs
remaining.
Jonny Cater (11) and Bryn Jones (23) scored good late order runs
before Town finished on 179 for 9 and seven batting points.
Town, who had spies at Campbell Park, knew Milton Keynes had
posted an impressive total of 244 for 8. This meant that if Town
did not win then Bourton Vale had to get a victory, or gain a
highly unlikely tie, to relegate the Bourton Road club.
In reply, Kidlington started brightly before Jason Ell chipped in
with a brace of wickets and Gear removed opener Nawaz Ali (64) as
Kidlington lost three wickets for just ten runs.
Meanwhile at Campbell Park, the Bourton Vale openers had shared a
century stand and looked set, which was dangerous news for Town.
Gear had former Town player Matt Arnull (4) caught behind, while
Jones had Kitson caught by Ell as Kidlington were reduced to 166
for 7 needing 14 runs to win.
Bourton Vale lost three quick wickets before they started a mid
order revival.
Kidlington's pair of Rana (20 not out) and Hussain (11 not out)
saw their side home to a three wicket success and leave Town
waiting on the news from Campbell Park.
Bourton Vale lost wickets at regular intervals before their last
man was run out, 23 runs short of MK Park's total, to see
celebrations start in Kidlington as Town had finished eleven
points clear of their closest rivals.

Buckingham Town 2nd XI vs Didcot
Nick Board writes:
Town 2nd X1 finished their season with a well draw against
promotion challengers Didcot at home on saturday.
Batting first, Town lost opener Talsania early on but Mike
Taylor(43) had excellent support from Rob Pritchard (69) who held
the innings together with some crisp strokeplay. A partnership of
sixty runs with his brother Dom Pritchard (37) and useful
contributions from Nick Wilkes(11) and Richard Pengelly(14) took
Town to 229-7 at tea, a useful but gettable total.
Didcot relied on opener Jones(81) to provide the basis for their
reply and he was kept subdued by Town opening bowlers Valambhia,
who bowled eleven overs for twenty seven runs and Pritchard who
bowled sixteeen overs for fifty six runs.
However, useful contributions from Ireson(22) and Perera(20)
looked to be keeping Didcot on target at the half way stage
although the introduction of Ryan Spragg(2-51) and Pengelly(2-19)
brought the initiative back to Town. Backed up by some good ground
fielding the chances of quick runs were restricted and the
visitors finished on 197-6 to share the points.
Nick Board commented "We have played some really good cricket this
year, although frequent first team calls has made it difficult to
produce consistent performances throughout the season and achieve
the number of wins needed for promotion"
Leighton Buzzard 2nd XI vs Buckingham Town 3rd XI
Bob Hutt writes:
Buckingham Town 3rds lost their last league game by 6
wickets at Leighton Buzzard 2nds and finished 2nd from bottom
just 1 point behind Kignston Bagpuize who beat Didcot 2nds
in the final over of their game by one wicket.
Buckingham won the toss and batted and after losing two
early wickets Matt Dipple(28) and John Pengelly(38) batted
well to see Buckingham into a good position but they then
lost wickets and only Stuart Helps(41) and Nev Pritchard(18)
offered any resistance as they closed on a respectable 207-10.
Leighton at 83-4 were in trouble
but skipper Jackson 68n.o. and Wakefield 40n.o.
resued them as Buckingham sought the one wicket to guarantee
their division 7 survival.
Buckingham 3rds now have to wait
and see how many sides are relegated.
