Buckingham Town vs Wolverton
Andy Bone writes:
Buckingham Town reached the F.G.Watts Final for the third year in
succession as they defeated Wolverton with just five balls
remaining on Sunday.
Leigh Tomlinson again played a successful anchor role after Andy
Thatcher's pinch-hitting opening got Town off to a flying start.
Thatcher was eventually out for 25 as Town lost two wickets for
just one run and James Tomlinson (32) proceeded to share a 59-run
stand with his brother.
After that it was Peter Heady and Leigh Tomlinson took their side
towards victory with some aggressive hitting and good running
between the wickets.
Needing a run-a-ball to win, Leigh Tomlinson (70) was stumped
after a fine knock before Heady (37) was caught without Town
adding to their score.
With two new batsmen at the crease, Wolverton stemmed the flow of
runs as Russ Thompson and Shiv Talsania both hit boundaries before
being out.
It was left to Vish Valambhia, who looked to be hitting the ball
sweetly, as he hit a six and a four in successive deliveries to
leave Town needing three to win of the last over.
Valambhia calmly placed the first ball of the last over into the
vacant mid wicket area for another boundary as he finished
unbeaten on 19 and took his side to a three-wicket win.
Earlier in the day, Lawrence DeSilva bowled a tidy opening spell
with Heady, one for 36, doing well from the other end.
Dom Pritchard, one for 13, bowled tightly before Valambhia, three
for 54, and James Tomlinson, one for 53, chipped in to reduce
Wolverton to 202 for 6 from their 40 overs.
Michael Baker and Hussain both hit half centuries for the home
side.
Town will play Old Northamptonians, in a repeat of the 2003 Final,
at Irthinglingborough CC on Sunday at 1.30pm.

Buckingham Town U14 vs Poddington U14
Andy Bone writes:
Buckingham Town reached the Shires League U14 Final after
defeating Poddington by 46 runs on Sunday.
Jamie Hirst (76) led the way and found support from Nick Wilkes
(31) and Dilshan Direkze (31) as Town U14 posted 183 for 5.
In reply, Poddington were restricted thanks to good spells from
Harsh Jethra, three for 23, and Danny Hobden three for 11, while
Josh Goodey claimed two wickets with Stu Powell and Max Jarman
picking up one each.
Poddington were finally all out for 137.
Describing the same match, Anil Jethra adds:
Everyone contributed as Buckingham Town won the semi-finals of
under 14s Shires League against Podington played on September 4,
2005. Buckingham Town batted first and put up an imposing total of
183 for 5. A solid opening partnership of 65 runs between man of
the match Jamie Hirst (76) and Nick Wilkes (31) laid the
foundation for the victory. This was followed by another long
partnership of 71 between Dilshan Direkze (31) and Jamie Hirst,
after which others added runs including Tom Jones' (16 n.o.).
Buckingham Town were equally impressive in bowling and
fielding. Harsh Jethra (3 for 20) made a good bowling start and
made early inroads in Podington's batting line up. Danny Hobden (3
for 11) and Josh Goodey ( 2 for 39) were the other main wicket
takers. Max Jarman and Stuart Powell chipping in with 1 wicket
each. There were four spectacular catches by wicket keeper Tom
Jones, Nick Wilkes (a diving one at mid off), Jamie Hirst at slips
and Danny Hobden deep in the field. Podington found it too hard to
chase the mammoth total and were bowled out for 137 in the last
over.
