Buckingham Town Cricket Club - Dinton Sixes 2006
Dinton Sixes
Andy Bone writes:
Buckingham Town recently fielded a six-a side team in the annual
Dinton Sixes competition. The team comprised of 7 players Steve
Beck, Greg Pearson, Jimad Khan, Ben Stafford, Jason Ell, Dan
Harris and Jonny Cater.
Buckingham were placed in Pool B of the 6 team competition. In
Buckingham's first match they played what looked a strong Tring
side. Buckingham fielded first as they did throughout the
tournament and had Tring in dire at 2 for 36 after 4 overs,
unfortunately the 5th over saw 25 scored off it and allowed Tring
to set a reasonable target of 62 for Buckingham to win.
Buckingham went about the total with fireworks in the first over
scoring 18, the opening pair of Dan Harris and Jimad Khan looked
to be well on top until there was a slight falter as Dan Harris
departed, Ben Stafford was then introduced at number three and
this pair saw Buckingham through with 4 balls to spare.
The second game saw Buckingham once again restricted well as they
conceded just 56. Dan Harris was the star of this innings with his
over going for only 4 runs. Jonny Cater's entry into the
competition saw him take 2 wickets in his over also. Buckingham
eased to the total set for them with Ben Stafford hitting 4 sixes,
including three in one over.
Buckingham played the South Africans VI in the final pool game
needing to win for a place in the final. Buckingham's bowling five
once again produced the goods restricting the South African VI to
only 41. Unfortunately both Buckingham openers, Khan and Harris
departed early with the score on 7, Ben Stafford and Jonny Cater
then came to the crease and carried the team through to the
completion of the game with two balls to spare.
The Final of the competition was between Buckingham and
Kidlington, for the fourth game running Buckingham fielded first
and bowled extremely well again. Unfortunately a couple of ill
directed balls resulted in wides and this costed Buckingham 8 runs
and a mis-field at a vital time in the game cost 3 more runs and
made the Kidlington target seem a little more respectable.
Buckingham then went into bat against the formidable bowling
attack of Kidlington feeling positive and confident. The early
loss of Khan was a slight set back but Stafford was in good
form. The score proceeded through to 47 for the loss of only 2
with Stafford also departing. Cater and Harris needed 15 off the
final over and only managed 10 as Buckingham fell 5 short in a
thriller.
