On a sunny evening, Town, after winning the toss, elected to
bat. With the ever growing possibility of winning the league, this
match was as crucial as any other.
Town started extremely brightly with openers Rob Pritchard and
Jamie Hirst posting an impressive 91 runs without loss from the
first 10 overs, starting to take Stony bowlers Myatt and Pollard
apart explosively. However, Pritchard (44) and Hirst (39) fell in
successive overs to leave Dilshan Direkze and Tom Jones at the
crease with the score at 102 from 12 overs.
Both then carried on where the openers left off with Jones firing
a lightning 43 not out and Direkze also accelerating to finish on
32 not out. With 30 extras, Buckingham closed their 20 overs on a
gigantic 189-2.
Stony struggled and the run rate required increased constantly
throughout their reply. For Town, Andy Norman claimed 2 wickets
and Tom Jones took 1. The pick of the bowling was Dilshan Direkze
with a fine 3-9 from his 4 overs. Opening seamers Jamie Hirst and
Matt Faulkner kept it very tight at the start. Stony ended on
114-6, giving Town a comfortable 75 run win.
Under 13s star Dan Hassell made his debut for the 16s and fielded
and bowled very well.
Town bagged 18 points with 10 for their victory and a further 8
bonus points (5 batting and 3 bowling).
Shot Of The Night: Jamie Hirst - Perfect drive over the bowler's
head for a one-bounce four.
