Wolverton U16 vs Buckingham Town U16
Rob Pritchard writes:
Buckingham Town u16s are in a rich vein of form, having won every
game since the first 2 losses of the season. Town faced a tough
test against top of the league Wolverton.
Town lost the toss and were invited to field by Wolverton captain
Hakim Khan. Town struck the first blow in the first over however,
when under 14 Jack Deal removed the Wolverton opener, clean
bowling him. Harsh Jethra continued to bowl a tight line at the
other end, managing to remove one of Wolverton's danger men
cheaply. Jack Robbins took a fine catch to remove another top
order batsman, however Khan was still at the crease scoring
freely.
A bowling change saw Dilshan Direkze and Matt Faulkner
brought in to the attack. Direkze used the pitch well, getting
lots of turn and bamboozling the batsman. Faulkner was unlucky
however, as Khan dispatched anything short to the mid-wicket
boundary. Khan looked dangerous, and it took a fine piece of work
from Matt Faulkner to dismiss him. The run-out of Khan saw the
game move into Town's favour.
Bowlers Cater and Gold continued to dry up the runs, and Jethra
and Deal finished the job at the end, completing a fine effort in
the field restricting Wolverton to 105-7 off of their 20 overs.
Buckingham's reply started slowly, however Jack Deal and Robin
Pritchard managed to get on top of the bowling, putting on 89 for
the first wicket. Pritchard was dismissed on 30, but the game had
been won by then. Direkze finished the job with Deal (61 n.o.) who
batted superbly to see the away team through for an outstanding 9
wicket win.
Town travel to MK City on Thursday, in a game which they must win
to gain the League Title.
