Buckingham Town vs Dinton
Andy Bone writes:
A superb all round performance by Dan Harris and runs by Jimad
Khan was not enough to defeat Dinton as a draw saw Town slip to
third in the table, just seven points behind the top spot.
Town's stand-in skipper Jason Ell lost the toss and Dinton invited
Town to bat with Matthew Thatcher (26) and Leigh Tomlinson (41)
giving their side a 69-run opening partnership before both players
departed without a run being added.
Jonny Cater (12) chipped in before Khan and Harris combined good
shot selection and quick running between the wickets as they added
a 166-run partnership for the fourth wicket in 16 overs.
The pair upped the tempo of Town's game as Khan reached a 53-ball
half century in 57 minutes while Harris played with controlled
aggression as his half century came in 46 minutes and just 38
balls.
Harris eventually fell for 68 in an innings that contained 7 fours
and one six. He batted 52 minutes and faced just 49 balls.
Khan was bowled nine runs later for 75 from 64 balls in his 87
minute stay at the crease. His innings contained 7 fours and 3
sixes.
Adam Izzard's late order aggression saw him hit 27 from just 16
balls as Town posted 266 for 5 from their 50 overs. Richard Scott
claimed three for 87 for the visitors.
Paul Atkins and John Purcell opened for Dinton and they made a
steady in adding 64 runs before the introduction of Greg Pearson
saw him claim the wickets of Purcell (31) and Ashley Smith (0)
courtesy of a catch behind by Cater and a slip chance by Dan
Harris.
Ben Stafford's slow right arm tempted Phil Scott (3) to hit out
and skipper Ell somehow held on to the skier at the third attempt.
With Atkins pacing the innings, Rob King hit a whirlwind 64 before
he was caught in the deep by Chris Harris' running catch.
With Town needing wickets, Ell made the innovative decision to
hand Dan Harris his first bowl of the season and it worked
wonders.
Harris had Atkins (84) stumped by Cater before Izzard took an
outstanding one handed chance at slip to remove Richard Scott
(4). Shaun Smith (0) was bowled before Chris Harris took another
catch, this time to remove Scott Bowler (6), as Dan Harris' seven
over stint had bagged him excellent final figures of four for 31.
Dinton closed on 220 for 8 with Town gaining eighteen points in
the draw.
Greg Pearson finished with two for 53, while Stafford, one for 47,
and Ell, one for 25, chipped in.
