Buckingham Town U15 vs Wolverton U15, Bucks Cup
Chris Wilkes writes:
Town showed strength in depth in demolishing Wolverton by 98 runs
in the first round of the Bucks U15 Cup, played at Preston
Bissett.
Openers Josh Goff (20) and Nick Wilkes (17) played themselves in
and were threatening to run away with the game until both went to
balls that nipped back through the gate. Then Dilshan Direkze (48)
kept up the momentum in partnerships with Jack Deal (13) and Harsh
Jethra (30), before Tom Jones and Stuart Powell took the total to
a daunting 150 for 5 from their 20 overs.
When opening bowlers Adam Bone and Callum Cater reduced the
visitors to 2 for 2 after 3 overs, the match was effectively over
as a contest. The drama then switched to the darkening sky, lit up
by copper coloured flashes of lightening. A result would be
obtained in the event of an abandonment for rain as long as
Wolverton completed 10 overs, allowing the match to be decided on
scoring rate.
Jones organised his team to rush through the overs, interrupted
only by waiting for a succession of incoming batsmen making the
long walk from the pavilion. Light rain arrived in the 10th over
but heavy rain held off long enough for Wolverton to be all out
for 52 in the 13th over. The bowlers all took wickets - Bone,
Cater (2), Josh Goodey (2), Max Jarman and Powell (3, in his only
over) - and were well supported by the fielders, who contributed
four catches, a stumping and a run out.
