Aston Rowant vs Buckingham Town
Andy Bone writes:
Buckingham Town suffered an opening day defeat when they travelled
to Aston Rowant in the Oxford Times Cherwell Cricket League on
Saturday.
Aston Rowant's Australian Andrew Hicks influenced the game as his
century helped the home side post 231 for 4 from their 50 over
allocation.
Openers Tim Morgan (21) and Chris Watling (24) chipped in early on
before Town's opening bowler Chris Harris removed both players.
The Queenslander's debut hundred saw him well supported by Simon
Bird (39), before the latter was bowled by Bryn Jones.
Harris finished with three for 45 from eleven overs, while Greg
Pearson bowled a marathon 25-over spell as Hicks finished
undefeated on 103 not out.
In reply, Town openers Matthew Thatcher and Leigh Tomlinson put
down a solid opening partnership worth 83 runs before Hicks'
introduction - the sixth bowler used in just the 22nd over - had
Thatcher caught by Foster for an excellent 33 runs.
The left handed Tomlinson (37) continued his good early season
form before he was bowled by Hicks.
Town then lost three wickets for just ten runs as Dan Harris' (23)
dismissal left them at 121 for 5 as Hicks bagged his fourth victim
for just seventeen runs in seven overs.
Jones (25) and Pearson (13) shared a 29-run partnership before the
opening bowler Bird returned to remove the tail as Town were
dismissed for 174 in the 46th over.
Bird finished with four for 37 to help his side to a 57-run
victory.

Buckingham Town 2nd XI vs Long Marston
Nick Board writes:
Town 2nd X1 got the season off to a flying start when they took
maximum points in their match against Long Marston
Put into bat the visitors progress was kept under control by
opening bowlers Spragg(2-29) and Valambhia(2-31) and supported by
some excellent outfielding, including two excellent catches by
Valambhia and Board, restricted the score to 85-4 at the half way
stage.
Paul Sly(2-40) and Ben Stafford(3-35) were introduced into the
attack and, with the exception of Dallimore(37),quickly accounted
for the remaining batsmen, wrapping up the innings with seven
overs still remaining - Marston closing on 140.
In reply, Town opener Andy Thatcher (37) looked in good form,
scoring at a run a ball, until he mistimed a pull shot and was
caught at mid wicket. The reliable Mike Taylor(60) then took the
anchor role and although Pritchard was needlessly run out found
enough partners to put Town in a wining position leaving it to
Nick Board(14) and Ben Stafford(4) to secure the points.

Horspath 2nd XI vs Buckingham Town 3rd XI
Bob Hutt writes:
Buckingham 3rds lost their first league match against Horspath
2nds by 10 wickets.
Buckingham were under strength and skipper Helps's son Jordan
Helps made up the eleven.
Jordan being only 8 could well be the youngest player ever to play
for the Town at senior level. Buckingham made a respectable 159
all out.
Tom Murray(44) was in sparkling form to give Town a good start.
A.Peshavaria(26) and colt Harsh Jethra(22) both batted well and a
superb catch dismissed Hutt(15).
Horspath who have won division's nine and eight in the past two
seasons won comfortably without loss.
