Buckingham Town vs Henley (Cockspur Cup)
Andy Bone writes:
Former Zimbabwe International Brian Murphy guided Henley to a six
wicket victory over Buckingham Town in the Cockspur Cup at Bourton
Road on Sunday.
Murphy, who played 11 Test Matches and 31 One Day Internationals
for his country, showed his experience for the Home Counties
Premier Division outfit after Greg Pearson's early brace had the
visitors on the back foot at 17 for 2.
Murphy paced the innings along with his Skipper Chris Ellison (32)
as Pearson, two for 35 from nine overs, proved a constant threat
with the ball and found Jason Ell a good support.
Valambhia bowled a tidy spell at the end before Murphy (59)
smashed a ball at Ell, who accepted the sharp chance in the
covers.
Darren White finished undefeated on 55 as his side made it home
with 15 balls remaining.
Earlier in the day, Bryn Jones (20) and Rob Large (29) helped Town
get off to a good start as Town's new mobile wicket covers ensured
the game was able to be played.
Jonny Cater made a fine half century and shared a stand of 53 with
Greg Pearson (20) before James Tomlinson (22 not out) and Ben
Stafford (12 not out) hit late order runs to take their side
through to 181 for 6 from their 45 overs.
