Buckingham Town vs Old Northamptonians (F.G.Watts Cup Final)
Andy Bone writes:
On sunday, Town got in to a very promising position in the
F.G.Watts Cup final thanks to Steve Beck's scintillating knock but
lost their way and eventually went down to a 30-run defeat to Old
Northamptonians at Rushden Town CC.
Beck despatched the ON's bowling to all parts of the ground as his
92 from 71 balls in 71 minutes took Town to 141 for 2 after Leigh
Tomlinson (14) had earlier been caught.
Jimad Khan (17) was caught and bowled with the score on 166 before
Town failed to add to their score as captain Jonny Cater (35) was
bizarrely caught by the wicketkeeper.
Just four runs later Dan Harris was adjudged leg before and by the
time Town had posted 186, James Tomlinson (11) had been stumped
and Greg Pearson (8) caught as the wicket's invariable pace and
bounce suited the seam bowling of Cory, who collect three for 51
in his 7.3 overs.
Vish Valambhia (0) was caught and Dom Pritchard (3) was run out at
the end as Ben Stafford (8 not out) ran out of partners. David
Willey closed with three for 23 from an excellent seven over spell
as his side ran out winners.
Earlier in the day, Town got off to an excellent start with the
ball as they had ON's 1 for 2 after Stafford caught Mellor (0) off
of Valambhia's bowling and James Tomlinson ran out Newton (1).
Former Town player John Mann (43) and Willey (84) took ON's away
from trouble while Cory (37) chipped in.
The introduction of Dan Harris' spin saw him take three for 25,
while Stafford and Khan took one wicket apiece.
Town were presented with the F.G.Watts League trophy and also
their runners up award.
Willey, son of former England batsman and current Test Umpire
Peter Willey, who was present at the game, was voted the man of
the match award for his 84 and three for 23.
Stony Stratford vs Buckingham Town 2nd XI
Bob Hutt writes:
Buckingham Town 2nds had the best of their friendly match at Stony Stratford
after winning the toss and batting, Town started briskly through skipper Hutt
(16) and Brijesh Valambhia who went on to score 104, his first 100 in England
since arriving from Tanzania with his brother Vish. Brijesh struck the ball
powerfully in a fine knock.
Russell Thompson after a slow start scored
a good 45 as Town managed a useful 213-9 from their 40 overs.
Stony in reply never threatened to
win as the match closed on a draw with Stony on 164-5. Ryan Spragg
1-24 bowled well as did colts Frank Johnson, only 12, and Luke
Stafford and Tom Hill 1-47.
Chris Horsler took 2-26
in a tidy spell of 8 overs.
