Buckingham Town vs Waltham
Andrew Holland writes:
In a complete contrast to the previous week, this Cockspur Cup tie
was played under overcast conditions. Buckingham lost the toss and
were stuck in. Events began badly when, in the second over Leigh
Tomlinson was adjudged run out. It was a foolish run, but both
scorers saw the keeper drop the ball! Then skipper Rob Large was
given out lbw to quick bowler Sohaib and the score was 6-2. Johnny
Cater began a reply, but when two more wickets fell Buckingham
were struggling at 42-4. This brought Graham Judd to the wicket,
fresh from a hundred the day before, and finally a partnership
developed. Cater took command, getting to 49 from 69 balls, before
missing one from slow left armer Azhar and was out lbw. 2 starts
to partnerships followed but when Judd was caught for 47
Buckingham were 7 down with only 144 on the board. It was then
that Bryn Jones and Greg Pearson got to the wicket. They put on 31
in 25 balls to lift Buckingham into a winning situation, improved
more still when Ben Stafford hit 10 from 9 balls at the
death. Buckingham finished 199-9 in their 45 overs.
In reply Buckingham were on fire. Pearson bowled accurately and
fast, but it was Bryn Jones who took Waltham apart. He took 4
wickets in 4 overs including 2 in consecutive balls to reduce them
to 15-4 from 8 overs. From there the result looked inevitable, and
despite a very composed 43 from 58 balls by Naseer, wickets
continued to fall. Only two other players reached double figures
in the innings as James Gear and Ben Stafford both chipped in
before Vish Valambhia bowled 3 overs, 2-21 at the end to leave the
visitors 129 all out, and facing a long trip back to Essex.
So a good day for Buckingham Town against a side who bowling
attack suggested trouble, but in the end didn't have the batting
to provide any sort of challenge.

Southam vs Buckingham Town 2nd XI
Bob Hutt writes:
Buckingham 2nds lost their sunday friendly against Southam
in the last over of the match.
Buckingham batting first scored
a useful 197-4 from their 40 overs.
Openers I.Wilkinson(47)
and Adrian Johnson(42) gave them a good start. Adam Bone scored
a fine 30 and Tom Hill chipped in with a useful 21n.o.
Kevin D'Silva looked good with 26.
Southam in reply were 101-5 with Buckingham looking likely to win
but Bromwich and S. Upton saw them home.
Adam Bone took a
superb catch in the deep and Buckingham with 6 players aged 14 or
under did well. Chris Guy(13) made his senior debut for Town.
All the young bowlers did well with A. Bone taking 2-30 well
supported by C.Cater, L. Stafford, T. Hill, Frank Johnson. Rod
Bridgman had a tidy spell 2-30.
