Shipton vs Buckingham Town

Andrew Holland  writes:

Cater stops Town slip-up

With players missing from the Buckingham team, the trip to Shipton was never going to be easy. Skipper Jason Ell won the toss and used the usual policy of bowling first. Scoring was very slow early on as the opening bowlers bowled accurately, and finally found the breakthrough in the 11th over when Greg Pearson had Charles Brain caught behind for 6. The scoring remained slow as Hemming and Jennings continued to struggle, and in the end it was a soft chip to midwicket that brought the end of Hemming for 31. A run out followed and Shipton where 79-3, but with 26 overs gone. It soon appeared to get worse as John Hartley pulled up during a run, and needed a runner. Buckingham had little to cheer following that though as Jennings and Hartley put on 81 in quick time with 12 fours and 5 sixes between them. The return of Greg Pearson brought the wicket though as Jennings went caught on the boundary for 52. James Gear took 2 wickets at the other end, but Hartley was still in and scoring quickly, lifting the score 210-6 before took 2 wickets in 2 balls to end the innings. Hartley made 77 from 83 balls.

In reply Buckingham started strongly, moving to 45-0 in 14 overs. Omar Hussain took 2 wickets in 2 overs though as both openers were dismissed. Dan Harris was then caught off captain Sean Miller and the score was 61-3. It was another 4th wicket partnership of 81 though that put the visitors back in control as Jimad Khan opened up. Miller snapped up Khan though to put the pressure back on. Wickets continued to tumble though while Jonny Cater hung in there to bring up his 3rd 50 on the trot. Rob Pritchard, Bryn Jones and Greg Pearson all fell before the end, but Buckingham reached the total with 8 balls to spare.

Buckingham Town 2nd XI vs Wolverton Town 1st XI

Bob Hutt writes:
Buckingham Town's 2nd XI crashed to an eight wicket defeat to top of the table Wolverton Town.

Town electing to bat found runs hard to come by and wickets fell quickly and cheaply.

Town crashed to 106 all out in 30.3 overs with A. Gosling taking 8-55.

Tail- ender Ryan Spragg(27) batted very well and the only other player to reach double figures was Russell Thompson(14).

Chris Harris returning from injury took an early wicket for Town but Wolverton cruised home with M. Baker 55 n.o.

Didcot 2nd XI vs Buckingham Town 3rd XI

Frank Johnson writes:
Buckingham Town's 3rd IX travelled to Didcot 2s and came away with a vital 15 points in their battle to avoid relegation. After losing the toss, Buckingham were asked to field and opening batsmen Perrera and Kankadandi batted through the new ball. Eventually Steven Brunning got the breakthrough with a fine catch from Adrian freeman at first slip. A rapid 50 then followed from the new batsman before he was spectacularly held on the boundary by Luke Stafford. Didcot reached 217 from their 46 overs after a tight middle period helped restrict the home side.

In reply Town got off to a decent start with Nigel Norman (61 from 108 balls) looking in fine form once again. Adrian Freeman was then dismissed with a steady 19 off 59 balls. Callum Cater (6 from 26) followed not too long after. Skipper Adrian Johnson was at 4 and displayed a sparkling show, hitting 37 off just 45 balls as Town pushed for more batting points after a slow start. N. Norman was then finally beaten by a beauty flicking the top of off-stump. A. Norman also fell quickly as Didcot began to get into the innings. Alistair Shaw looked in good touch but lost his concentration and was caught at silly point pushing outside off-stump. Steve Brunning steadied the ship and was 5 not out as Buckingham reached 155 from 46 overs.
