Buckingham Town vs Wellingborough

Andrew Holland  writes:

Cater Century leads Town to Victory

Buckingham lost the toss and got inserted against Wellingborough. Dan Harris went in and attacked the first 2 overs before being bowled for 12. Jonny Cater came to the wicket and Wellingborough were put to the sword. Although wickets fell at regular intervals, Judd (17), Khan (13) and Tomlinson (0), Cater was in fine form. His first 50 came from 41 balls, before he reached 100 in 82 balls. All the bowlers came in for punishment before he finally holed out on the boundary for 130 (98). When he fell the score was 226-5, and a score of 7 an over 280 looked on the cards. Wellingborough captain James Howes came into the attack though, and took just 16 balls to take figures of 5-14, finishing the innings on 253 all out.

In reply, 45 were scored in the first 8 overs as the visitors were up with the rate. Wickets then began to fall with great regularity as only 2 players made it past 50. Opener Austin hit 50 from 58 balls while Lopez scored 25 from 23 balls. Cater gave all his bowlers and go, and so the wickets were shared around. Stuart Helps was the pick of the bowlers with 3-14 while James Tomlinson took 2-21.

Buckingham win by 87 runs

Open university vs Buckingham Town 2nd XI

Bob Hutt writes:
Buckingham Town 2nds had a thrilling win over the Open University in their Sunday friendly.

Town had a very young side with only three senior players and the youngsters did superbly.

Jake Mallett(13) and Oliver Cockayne made their senior debuts.

The OU elected to bat and scored a useful 181-7 from their 40 overs. Opening bowlers Luke Stafford and Steve Brunning 2-14 bowled very economically.

Dom Pritchard pitched up 2-16.

Jake Mallett impressed with his bowling and took his 1st wicket for the Town at senior level. In reply Dom Pritchard(24) was in good form.

The star of the Buckingham batting was young Callum Cater who batted brilliantly with 66 not out, his first ever half century for the Town.

It was a match winning performance from young Callum. Useful runs came from Steve Brunning(17), Bob Hutt(16) and

rob Laird(15). Ben Cater scored important runs as well.

Town needed 20 runs off the last two overs to win. The game ended in dramatic fashion.

Town needed three to win off the last ball of the match with one delivery left.

A wide was given and Town scrambled a run as well so the scores were tied.

13 year old Jake Mallett then hit the next ball for three runs to give Town victory to scenes of delight from Town's youngsters.
