Buckingham Town 1st XI vs Great Tew
Andrew Holland writes:
Rob Large inserted Great Tew on Saturday knowing that a win could
almost secure the Cherwell League Division 1 title and
promotion. It was a quiet start as the opening bowlers kept the
pressure on and scoring was slow. After 8 overs the score was only
22 before Greg Pearson had Taylor caught behind for 16. Jason Ell
followed that by having the new batsman caught for 0. No batsman
really looked in as Chris Harris came into the attack and kept the
pressure on. The score had reached 57 before Harris took 3 wickets
in 3 overs to leave the visitors 81-5. However, Buckingham let the
pressure off as captain Shane Faulkner and youngster Jack Taylor
rebuilt the innings. They added 73 from 68 balls before Jimad Khan
had Faulkner caught by Ell for 81 (68 balls). After that no one
reached double figures and Great Tew were bowled out for 189, with
Taylor making 46 off 61 balls.
In reply Buckingham made a good start. Leigh Tomlinson and Jimad
Khan added 45 from just 5 overs before opening bowler Smith bowled
Tomlinson for 16. Thoughts of a comfortable win were lost though
as Dan Harris was lbw for 4 before Felix Hughes-Morgan had Rob
Large and Jonny Cater both caught pulling. At 98-4, James
Tomlinson joined Khan, needing a vital partnership. Khan reached
50 and kept the scoreboard ticking. Despite needing just one
wicket to put the pressure back on, Great Tew failed to get it and
the score moved closer and closer to the target. After 39 overs
the score was 188-4, with Khan needing 5 for his hundred or
Tomlinson 3 for his fifty. Khan took strike and launched the
bowler over mid-off for 6 to get his first hundred of the season
and claim victory.

Buckingham Town 3rd XI vs Witney Mills 2nd XI
Bob Hutt writes:
Buckingham Town 3rds lost their relegation battle game
against Witney Mills 2nds by 6 wickets with just over two
overs left in a tight match.
Town batting first against
10 men Mills made a steady start as Mills fielded for half the
match with nine players.
Solid innings came from Nigel Norman
70 n.o. who was supported by Adrian Freeman(38) and John Talbot(21).
For Mills openers S.Turner(77) and A. Oliver(47) gave them a solid
start and dispite a few near misses Town couldn't get the wickets
they badly needed to late on.
All Town's bowlers did quite well
and perhaps on another day Town could have won.
In a tight game Mills got the vital 30 points.
Town had a couple of good lbw
appeals turned down which would have changed the result in all
probability.
Matt Dipple took a good outfield catch.
