Buckingham Town vs Cumnor

Andrew Holland  writes:

Town take Revenge!

On Saturday Buckingham faced the only team to beat them so far this season. With the weather finally being favourable, Cumnor won the toss and batted. Having scored over 300 earlier in the season, Cumnor were full of confidence, but it was only the second over of the match that Jason Ell took the first wicket, clean bowling the opening batsman. This brought Kiwi wicket keeper Andrew Robertson to the wicket. From ball 1 he looked in, but wickets fell at the other end as James Gear bowled the other opener and Jimad Khan had Gaunt stumped down the leg side. It brought skipper Geoff Walford to the wicket. The two batsmen that had made life miserable for Buckingham earlier in the season set about repeating it as they added 84 quick runs to move the score up to 147-3 with 12 overs to go. However, the return of Greg Pearson stopped Cumnor in their tracks as he had Robertson brilliantly stumped down the leg side for 57. Soon he had 2 more wickets as a collapse began. Khan had one mighty smash go for 6 before Pearson and Gear took another wicket each to leave the score 194-9. Walford managed 19 off the last 2 overs though to leave Cumnor 213-9, with Greg Pearson taking 4 for 43.

In reply Khan looked fired up. He broke through captain Rob Larges' defence first ball as he clean bowled him. He followed that up by having Leigh Tomlinson caught behind for 9. Dan Harris and Jimad Khan went for the aggressive tactic and soon had the other bowlers disappearing to the boundary though. Khan get persisting though, and in the end Harris chipped straight to square leg for 42. Jonny Cater replaced him and he added 50 with Khan to take the score safely past the 100. But with the score on 119, a controversial replacement ball bowled Khan for 49, and the pressure was on. Having re-found form the week before though, Cater had the situation under control. He was given good support from James Tomlinson at the other end, but took the bowlers on and took Buckingham past the total in the 40th over; finishing 77 not out from 77 balls.

Buckingham Town 3rd XI vs Morris Motors 2nd XI

Bob Hutt  writes:
Buckingham Town 3rds entertained Morris Motors 2nds at Stoke Hammond.

Motors won the toss and batted and scored a useful 252-5 from their 46 overs.

Opener A. Younus 98 n.o. was in good form and Town's bowlers all colts had a tough afternoon.Tom Hill took 2-31.

Town made a solid start through Nigel Norman who batted throughout the innings for 58 n.o. and Callum Cater(31).

Rob Laird(24) scored useful runs as neither side threatened to win the match.

Buckingham closed on a respectable total of 154-4. A decent performance from a very young side who only played with three senior players as such so the youngsters did well.
