Oxford Downs vs Buckingham Town

Andrew Holland  writes:

Town hammer Oxford Downs!

Stand-in skipper Jason Ell won the toss at Oxford Downs and decided to go for the aggression option of bowling first. It seemed a good decision when some tight opening bowling from Greg Pearson and Lawrence D'Silva kept the home team to 7-0 from the first 7 overs. Chris Sandbach, the Oxford Downs opener tried to run his partner out at least twice but finally some runs began to come as D'Silva leaked a few boundaries. The opening partnership lasted 13 overs though before Crouch edges Pearson to wicket-keeper Cater. Unfortunately rain arrived shortly after, losing both sides 3 overs. Runs flowed straight after the rain break though as Khan bowled 3 overs for 22, and the second wicket stand put on 70 in 80 balls. That was the last cheering the home side enjoyed though as they fell from 106-1 to 121-5 in 6 overs. Skipper Wesley Bartlett looked good as he hit 16 at a run a ball before falling to a sharp leg side stumping from Cater off captain Ell before, in the next over, opener Sandbach chipped Ell straight to deep square leg for 87. Oxford Downs were eventually all out for 192 with 2 balls to spare.

In reply, Buckingham never looked troubled. The new opening partnership of Leigh Tomlinson and Dan Harris hit 73 in the first 10 overs as the opening bowlers sprayed the ball around. The only time the visitors looked under pressure was when Harris was bowled before out of form Cater was lbw for 8. Tomlinson and Jimad Khan never looked troubled though as they strolled along at far more than the required rate. Tomlinson got to his 50 first before being caught behind for 60. Khan though continued his impressive form smashing an unbeaten 70 from just 48 balls. After two disappointed abandonment's against the bottom two, Buckingham were back playing and winning, ahead of an important away tie with Banbury II next week.
