Banbury XX vs Buckingham Town
Andrew Holland writes:
Town record first win!
After a quick shower had threatened the game BanburyXX captain
David Clark won the toss and decided to bat. With both sides
having lost their first game to rain, they wanted the 30 points to
get their bid for Home Counties cricket underway. For Buckingham,
it was a bonus as they soon reduced the hosts to 1-4, with 2
wickets a piece to Greg Pearson and Chris Harris. After 32 balls
BanburyXX finally scored a run off the bat, only to then lose
another wicket to make the score 8-5. Andy Grubich and captain
Clark then began a fight back, despite Harris and Pearson,
followed by James Gear, keeping up the pressure. By the ½ way
stage they had managed to reach 68-5 before Gear bowled the
captain followed by Grubich, after reaching 50, being beaten by
the spin of Ben Stafford. At 86-7 the game looked over, but
Buckingham relaxed and overseas batsman Darren De Bruyn took
advantage. He hit 52 from 67 balls as BanburyXX reached 169-8 in
50 overs.
In reply Buckingham made a terrible start as Keith Arnold had
Leigh Tomlinson caught at slip followed by Jonny Cater being
stumped off the keepers pad 1st ball. After captain Rob Large and
Dan Harris had been removed the score was 20-4, and BanburyXX had
some hope. Jimad Khan and James Tomlinson then added over a 100
for the 5th wicket and the game was won. It was then that Clark
brought himself on to bowl. His part time slow bowling did the
trick. Khan hit his first ball cover and was out for
74. Buckingham ended up 7 wickets down, but thanks to Ben Stafford
and James Gear got over the line in the 44th over.
