Stanmore vs Buckingham Town

Andrew Holland writes:
Town crash out of cup!
On the second trip in 2 weeks to Stanmore cricket club the rain was staying away. Rob Large won the toss and inserted the opposition. It took 17 balls for the first action of the game when a throw from the boundary deflected off the stumps into the path of the opening batsman who stood on it and fell. Unfortunately that was the last part he played as he was soon taken to hospital. The game never really got going after that as Stanmore rarely breached 3 an over. Opener Mehra scored 25 from 81 balls! There were highlights for Buckingham: a superb caught and bowled by James Gear in his 1st over; and a vital breakthrough by Ben Stafford in his 1st ball. It wasn't until the score stood at 106-5 with 10 overs to go that the excitement began. Suddenly the big shots came as 59 were hit off 60 balls, including a brisk 33 from De Silva. In the end Stanmore reached a very disappointing 165-7, with Stafford the pick of the bowlers with 3-33. When Buckingham came out to bat, things looked good as out of form Rob Large creamed the first ball of the innings for 4. From then on though Buckingham were poor. Only Leigh Tomlinson got in (28) of the top 8 batsman as Stanmore reduced them to 67-8. At that stage with 8 an over needed finally some resistance came. Vish Valambhia and Ben Stafford scored some quick runs (hitting 3 of the 5 boundaries in the innings), and gaining some respect for their team as they reached 100. In the end they were all out for 103 though and Buckingham had a long drive home to think about a disappointing performance.

Buckingham Town 2nd XI vs Old Northamponians

Bob Hutt writes:
Buckingham Town 2nd XI's first scheduled match was not played as O.N's were unable to raise a side which was a shame as the rains had abated and sunday turned out to be a fine day.
