Buckingham Town 1st XI vs Bucks -17s
Andrew Holland writes:
Town fight back not enough!
When Jonny Cater won the toss and chose to bat many thought that a
big total was going to posted. The Bucks under 17s came out full
of energy however and it only took till the third over for Tom
Crick to deliver the perfect yorker to opener Leigh Tomlinson,
re-arranging his stumps. Although Cater came in and looked in
control from the start Crick picked up 2 more wickets in his
opening spell of 6 overs, 3-19 to leave Buckingham 46-3 after
11. This was followed by Simon Myatt picking up Dan Harris in a
controversial lbw decision for 6. With the captain the only one so
far to reach double figures, the pressure was on. Myatt and Jack
Kilgannon followed up with 20 overs of economical bowling at under
3 an over, but couldn't find a break through until Cater chipped a
full toss straight back to Kilgannon off his own bowling for
55. James Tomlinson and Graham Judd began the recovery process
until a mix-up left Tomlinson run out, and after that resistance
was little. Despite Judd's 46, no one else reached double figures
and Buckingham eventually ended 180 all out.
In response Buckingham got off to the worst possible
start. Openers Alex Walker and Jeremy Suter hit 82 from 80 balls
between them for the first wicket as Khan, Pearson and Spragg went
the distance with Beck going for 8 in his first over. The batsman
got careless however as they took a risky second to Ben Staffords
arm and Suter was run out for 37. 10 runs later Walker got a fine
edge off Beck and was caught by Cater for 47 from 34
balls. Another partnership took the score past 100 and the runs
required to 52 before Beck got 2 wickets in 2 overs. First captain
Ollie Haddock chipped a loose leg stump ball straight to square
leg and then Webster was lbw to leave the visitors 130-4. 3
wickets followed for 27 runs as the slower bowling of Judd,
Stafford and Harris took control leaving the score
157-7. Buckingham's number 2 keeper Robin Pritchard then took
control for Bucks 17s with a well played 22 to move them within 3
of victory. Dan Harris then removed him caught behind, (with a lot
of doubt) but Simon Myatt swatted a four to win the game in the
49th over.
