Dinton vs Buckingham Town
Andrew Holland writes:
Town win Title!
Buckingham inserted Dinton knowing that a win would be enough to
seal the Cherwell League Division 1 title, and promotion to the
Home Counties. As early as the third over Greg Pearson had a
wicket, bowling opener Darren Risden for 4. That was the only
success in the first hour though as captain Ashley Smith and
Richard Scott set about building a solid partnership. They added
50 against some tidy but not dangerous bowling and at 57-1 the
hosts looked set for a big total. Greg Pearson continued his good
form though as he had Smith lbw for 13. Scott then ran himself out
for 27, before James Gear took 3 lbws to leave Buckingham in
control with the score 80-6. Tim Brooker and Mark Ludlow tried to
salvage something by adding 31, before the innings slumped from
111-6 to 118 all out. Gear finished with 6-26.
In reply, a thought of a short chase and onto the celebratory beer
by 5 o'clock faltered as Rob Large was bowled by Scott Bowler for
5. Bowler then removed Dan Harris (2), and Jimad Khan (0) to leave
the score 21-3. Jonny Cater hit 7 from 6 balls before he was lbw
to Nathan Brooks to give Dinton thoughts of an unlikely win. Leigh
and James Tomlinson shut up though and refused to budge as the
scoreboard ticked up, but no more wickets fell. James Tomlinson
fell for 15 to make the score 100-5, but Leigh Tomlinson stayed to
bring up his 50 with a four off the last ball of the match. Town
won by 5 wickets, and will be playing Home Counties cricket in
2008.

Cumnor 3rd XI vs Buckingham Town 3rd XI
Bob Hutt writes:
Buckingham Town 3rds lost by six wickets to 2nd in the table
Cumnor 3rds.
Town with the youngest squad in divison 7 now face the
prospect of relegation but Town's youngsters have performed well
all season and are improving with experience.
Skipper Helps won
the toss and batted on a difficult wicket and Town generally
struggled.
Nigel Norman opening played the anchor role and
batted throughout for his 47 n.o.
Skipper Helps was unlucky
to be caught off the glove and the only other player to reach
double figures was Bob Hutt(25) who looked in good form as they
were bowled out for a meagre 118.
In reply Cumnor lost two early wickets but recovered thanks to
J.Metcalf(54) and they ran out comfortable winners. Chris
Colbourn for Town took 2-34 and Stuart Helps and Andy Norman
had one apiece.
