Buckingham Town vs Oxford Downs
Andrew Holland writes:
Town finish with nail biting win!
A rather relaxed attitude preceded the final game of the 2007
Cherwell League. Having claimed the title and promotion the
previous week, there was none of the usual warming up before game,
but when Rob Large won the toss he put in Oxford Downs. Buckingham
never really showed their true commitment though as the atmosphere
was flat and the fielding poor. Two wickets did fall to Greg
Pearson though as the first hour consisted of boundaries or
wickets. At 62-2 though Buckingham finished their celebrating. Wes
Bartlett and Richard West set about building a quick
base. Bartlett took 68 balls for his 50 as the partnership passed
100 catches went down, 8 at the last count. Bartlett then reached
his 100 before Jimad Khan had him lbw for 102 (119 balls). At
210-3 with 9 overs left though, 300 was on the card. Khan and
Pearson finally found some control though as wickets began to
tumble. West made 76 and Ellwood a quick 29 from 26 balls before
the innings closed on 265-7. Pearson 4-64 and Khan 3-50.
It seemed that Buckingham were keen to keep up with the
rate. Leigh Tomlinson got off to a quick start before Crouch and
Milligan each took a wicket to have the hosts 26-2. Rob Large and
Jimad Khan continued the big shots but neither made a big
score. Large fell for 24 before Richard West came on and had Khan
caught behind for 48 from 35 balls. 109-4 was the situation when
Jonny Cater and James Tomlinson started to rebuild the
innings. They kept the run rate steady and victory was always on
before the part time bowling of Perkin removed Cater for 46. Greg
Pearson came to the wicket and again a 50 partnership was
built. Edges through the slips were numerous before Tomlinson
finally fell to a great catch for 39. 2 balls later Ben Stafford
was out and the score was 233-7. James Gear provided enough
resistance though to allow Greg Pearson to hit the winning runs in
the last over to end 42 not out.

Buckingham win by 3 wickets
Oxford Downs 2nd XI vs Buckingham Town 2nd XI
Bob Hutt writes:
Town's 2nds went into their last game of the 2007 season
with relegation fears and they had a winning draw against
Oxford Downs 2nds.
With relegated neighbours Brackley beating
Didcot, Town were saved from relegation and survive in Div 4.
Buckingham batting first made a good start through Mike Taylor(27)
and Dilsan Direkze (39).
Skipper Judd and Thompson were
dismissed cheaply and then solid innings from Robin Pritchard(26),
Matt Dipple(20) and Richard Pengelly(22) improved matters as Town
posted a useful 191-10 total.
In reply Downs never really threatened and closed on 127-9.
Opening bowlers Lawrence D'Silva 2-26 and Ryan Spragg 1-26 bowled
well in tidy spells and their good work was backed up well with
good efforts by Richard Pengelly 5-26 and Paul Sly 1-23.
Richard Pengelly's wickets against Downs saw him joint top wicket
taker for the 2nds along with the absent Dom Pritchard.
Both took 22 wickets this season for the 2nds League side.

Buckingham Town 17pts drew with Oxford Downs 2nds
Buckingham Town 3rd XI vs Long Marston 2nd XI
Bob Hutt writes:
Buckingham Town 3rds lost their final league match against
Long Marston 2nds by five wickets which saw Marston crowned
as Div 7 champions.
Town put up a spirited display but
face relegation to div 8 in 2008.
Buckingham batted first
and scored a useful 181 all out.
The batting performance
of the day for Town came from Skipper Stuart Helps who opened and
scored a superb 107.
Helps absent for most part of the season
through injury was in great form with the bat.
John Talbot(14),
Bob Hutt(13) and Adrian Freeman(13) chipped in and for Marston
Simon Vassey again was a tight bowler with 59 runs from his 18 overs.
The absence of all rounder Helps for many games was badly missed by
the 3rds as once injured the 3rds slipped from a comfortable mid-table
position into the relegation zone and never recovered.
Abandoned games(6)
because of poor weather didn't help their cause but with a very young
side on many occassions the 3rds played with spirit and committment
throughout the year.
In reply Marston made a good start and with the hard hitting R. Gaymer(83)
leading the way they looked like winners early on.
After his
dismissal Town came back into the game but Marston managed to win
dispite Town's effort which couldn't be faulted.
Chris Colbourn
bowled very well as did skipper Helps and colt Steve Brunning picked
a wicket and also took a superb catch in the slips.
