Buckingham Town vs Old Northamptonians - F.G.Watts Sunday Challenge Final
Andrew Holland writes:
Town win the cup!
The Winning Team
Buckingham won the toss and chose to bat at Horton House. Having
met O.N.'s in last years final, and lost, Buckingham were
determined to win this time. A terrible start occurred though as
Graham Judd was bowled for 0. Scoring was slow, and just as it
picked up and the 50 arrived, Leigh Tomlinson was also
bowled. Jonny Cater and Jimad Khan began the rebuilding and were
successful as they reached 107-2 at the half way stage. Cater was
then adjudged lbw for 33, followed by James Tomlinson being run
out and the score was 113-4. Possibly the turning point of the
match followed though as Khan and Robin Pritchard scored a
run-a-ball partnership of 72. It was broken only when Khan went
for 82 from 74 balls after 4 towering sixes. 44 came off the last
6 overs as Pritchard (21) and Beck (19) both contributed to finish
the innings 230 all out in the last over.
In reply O.N.'s looked out of the game when Lawrence D'Silva and
Steve Beck reduced them to 35-3 from the first 10 overs. Martin
Cory tried to add some resistance with 22 from 15 balls, but fell
to change bowler Matt Dipple. Steve Dekock and David Willey were
perhaps the only hope for O.N.'s. They each scored 50 and kept the
run rate tied with Buckingham's. Both then fell in consecutive
overs though as Ben Stafford and Judd took one apiece. Willey
falling to a fantastic diving catch on the boundary to Dilshan
Direkze. They finished 189 all out with Judd taking 3 wickets.
